Impulse Elos 120XL - Custom Stand

So I sold the homestead for a loss, and since I have to break down the tank and lift the spirits...Killer New Tank!!!

Anyway, I have to put it all together in about a week, so any ideas would be helpfull. So far I've ordered the tank, found someone to make a stainless frame, and got the frosted glass doors and henges in the works.

Other Equip:
Lights=48 Inch IceCap Reef Illuminations 2 HQI 250's, 2 T5 + 2x15W Tubular LED Moonlights
Skimmer=Cone type
Return Pump= Ehiem 1260
Chiller=old one for now
Circulation/Flow= 2x Vortech Mp40's
Sump=not yet
RO DI=not yet

Also, Ive got a wild idea to get clear glass chunks, or have an artist blow some clear glass "rocks" for aquascaping. I'm leaning towards two islands with a water channel running between left to right. Picture the colored coral on clearish glass "rocks". Really clean look.....untill the algae mucks everything up. oh yeah, and an oversized sump to hold all the live rock.

What am I missing?

Your idea about 'glass rock' made me think of the ceramic reef rocks that are being sold. Maybe those would work better for you in providing a better surface for biological filtration? You are right, eventuallly the glass will be covered by something. Besides it will be a reef tank right? Not a beta bowl?;)

Glad to help out with the tank. Maybe ask around and see if someone has some used/fried 250 de hqi's that they have laying around that they'd be willing to give you so you can check that you're lights are in good order?

Stainless stand

Here's a shot of the stand and hanging system for the lights. Stand is all stainless, lights are the new Icecap reef illum..

Stand and lights look great as well as the surrounding decor. Looking forward to your build.

Who built the stand? Please link or PM... Ron

Big thanks to Eric of Veralte Aquatics!!!!

Killer Sump/tower design!

Last minute tank moving service really helped!

Still waiting on two of the four glass doors-one too big-one broke during drilling..

Still need to organize and mount the electronics and such, buts its almost done!!!

Now lets get some pictures up...

For a skimmer look at the itech's. Best skimmer on the market is what I have been reading. Half the price of the popular cone skimmers out right now.

Looking forward to updates!

120 Elos build

So here we are at that time.... you guessed it, it's picture time. Just a quick recap on the build. The tank is an Elos 120 xl it sits on an all stainless stand made from 1" square tube with an fixed arm hanger for the lights. Lights are Icecap reef illum fixture with (2) 250 hqi's, (2) 48" T5's and (2) led moon light strips. The goal was something smooth yet industrial at the same time. The filter is a berlin style with media tower. Return flow is handled via an Ehiem 1260 and skimming for now is done via a atb cone style, this will more than likely be upgraded at some point due to the increase in water volume from the previous tank. For now the tank is bare bottom, but this may change at some point. Flow inside the tank is done by (2) vortex mp-40's. At this point the lights were mounted a little higher than normal to make it a deeper water reef for the band on Anthias that will be the majority of the fish. Still managing to care for the mostly sps selection or coral. Hope everyone enjoys the pics and I'll try to get some other shots up as soon as the other glass arrives and we have a totally finished unit, but you'll get the idea.. These shots are right during the setup so the tank hasnt been arranged yet. More pics to follow...

Your landscaping looks great. I like the scale and depth.

Thanks Ron! I'm happy with the major rock formations, but still tweeking the back left corner, and coral placement trying to maximize depth.

Funny though, I used only the rock from my old 75 gal., and it was'nt crammed with rock either. This tank is almost double the volume, and I don't think I'll add a single piece of rock!
