Good morning,

I've been checking things out for awhile now. This seems to be a great site with tons on valuable information. Ive recently decided to turn my 43 hex into a reef after seeing a few hex reefs. So I remove the crushed coral and replaced it with live sand, added live sand to the sump, started adding live rock to both the tank and sump and removed the Magnum 350 from the sump.
I still need to get alot more rock I only have 25lbs. I have to be selective due to the opening being so small.

But anyways, I just wanted to intoduce myself and my tank. I should have plenty on beginner questions as time goes on.

Thanks
Don

Don,

Welcome! I think you will find us a helpful bunch.

What are you using for filtration other than the live rock not the 350 is gone?

Maybe if I can get my camera to focus on the tank. For some reason it wont focus with the MH light.

How do I link a photo in a post? I dont want to keep taking up the boards space. I could use my own webspace.

Welcome

Hello Don, nice to meet you. Here is photo of my DIY sump that I just finished plumbing this evening. It's a 20 gallon tank, CPR BakPak, and RIO 2500 return (this is only temporary until after christmas...hopefully santa will be bringing a MAG5 my way).

Enough of my rambling, here you go!!!

Nice picture. I sure wish my camera took that nice of shots. It looks like youve got some serios spashing going on down there.

Yeah I have a slight problem with the CPR's return not reaching into the water, so I have it returning into the corner with a foam pad between it's 90 and the tank. It's not really splashing much, but I dont' plan on leaving this that way.

It was late last night, and I didn't want to make another trip to Lowe's for more fittings so this is working for now. Also, my CPR overflow is making quite a bit of bubbles on it's own. I am going to be changing over the overflow inside of it to a small durso design stand pipe, I just didn't have it finished yesterday.

Anyway, these photos were taken with just a 1.2 megapixel camera that a friend of mine brought over to take the pics (I was surprised they turned out so good, considering the camera's resolution is so low), as I don't have a digital camera yet.

Mine has the same problem. I have the old backpack so it cannot be fixed with pipe fittings. Notice the blue filter pad under my overflow. Works great but I clean it weekly so it doesnt turn into a nitrate factory.

I've been running a tank for about 2 years, just traded my 30 gallon nano reef tank for a 50 gallon reefer. My 30 had a sump set up and now all I'm running cpr aquafuse 2 with protein skimmer n all. I've got so many different corals I can't even recall all the names of them. I've got a blenny and a orange spotted gobby, a Nemo fish, a yellowtail damsel, some candy cane corals, frog spawns, bubble corals, some brain corals, plate coral, etc. I've been on this site before when I first started. And now I've really engaged myself in learning the bests for this hobby. I have money to spend and need to know the details on lights placement. the differentials between the water displacement of the said pumps gallon per hour and distance from return pump to return spout. If that affects the gallon per hour on the pump or not? Like I said only running the aquafuse but I've been looking into setting up a good sump system. Any ways I have no idea what I'm talking about. Thanks for having a good site to reference to.
