If you want the 300 for a few bucks less ($400):

I'm not affiliated with any skimmer company. I've got my eye on the 300A and the SC1, and stumbled across this link. It seems that the SWC, MSX, Octopus Extreme, and possibly a few other brands are all made in the same plant in Shenzen. The only difference between them is what color plastic you like in certain spots.

This is true and untrue, much difference in the pump mods on the swc vs octo. The swc pw pulls 28-32scfh compared to the octo's 13-17scfh. That to me is pretty significant. The white bodies also have a different output fwiw as they are the third generation. The build quality is the same.

okay so these 2 skimmers are identical one place says 800 gallons and once says 600 so in my search for a skimmer which so far has been a joke what would you rate it as? i like being able to feed it from an overflow so i dont need use any sump space and right now its 10% off ad aquacave

also question in pumps. the swc and the octo pumps have the same model number Sicce PSK-2500 so its the mods that make the diff?? ie mesh mod / pinwheel so if you bought the cheaper octo and meshed it yourself would it compare to the SWC pumps that come with the mesh?

Beoks, those are the exact same skimmers. They are both using the otp 2000 pump's x's 3. Combined they are pulling around 20scfh. You can get a swc/msx/Oct 200 extreme that pulls that much air at 289bux. WIth one pump. They do not use the sicce's. What size of tank are you looking to skim and what are your needs. What is your budget? Does it have to be external?

450 gallon under a 1000 and no it doesnt need to be external but it would make life much easyier if it was

sorry i was not clear on my last post

right i know they are the same skimmer but 2 websites rate them as diff skimmers even though they are the same i was asking based on that design with those pumps what would it be rated at realistically?

forget the question about the pumps thats another day question

300 cone and you will be able to go with whatever volume you want to add :) frag tank etc. you will be able to feed more and add more fish. i would go with as big as i can in the budget. or another option which is said to be a really awsome skimmer is the Vertex Alpha 250 Cone Skimmer, it has a ozone port as well if you decide to use an ozone generator for more performance and oxygen.
999 with free shipping though or the 300 is a few hundred more.

What reviews are you specifically referring to?

Back when i posted that in June, there were tons of pump issues and crazing. They have fixed them up since and they work pretty good. There are still a few pump probs, but no more than the usual. They are a nice budget skimmer.
