Is there a single person who has had success in mixing different clowns?

I've seen several tanks with mixed Clown species. There are some that are easier than others. For instance, I wouldn't try a mixed species where either species were Maroons or Clarkiis. I've seen Skunk Clowns mixed with Percs. I've seen Tomato Clowns mixed with Percs....although I don't know if I'd recommend that either.

IMO, there's no cut and dried answer for this one. A lot of other factors come into play. Size of tank, amount of rock work, design of rockscaping, individual attitudes of each Clown.....etc.

I would never recommend mixing Clowns. I have seen it done in VERY large aquariums (a few hundred gallons) But IMO, it is too risky to mix them when the less aggresive of the two may end up dead. Clowns are Damselfish, don't forget and many grow to be really mean

I paired a tomato & a pink skunk in a 12gal nano. They're happy & have since graduated to a 29gal. The pink skunk was a widower and the tomato was a captive bred juvie. They have been together for 18 months and haven't yet decided who is the female. I think the tomato will ultimately end up taking the role.

In the past, I've had the best luck mixing clowns when there is only one individual of a particular species. I've kept a tomato, sebae, and true perc. together successfully in a 55 gal. in the past with very little agression or fighting. If there was two or more of a certian species, well, that's where I would run into problems. Certain species like maroons, on the other hand, are much more aggressive and don't mix well with other clowns, paired or not. But just like mixing any species of fish, it's always somewhat of a crapshoot, and there is always a risk of aggression.

I have an adult Clakii clown (bossy and pugnacious) and a pair of juvenile true percs in the same 120. They get along fine. The Clarkii comes into the perc's home turf and appears to want to play with them. They will swim around and around the powerhead....

I bought a 64 gal tank with one true perc mixed with a pair of ocellaris (however you spell that) and they got along fine.

In my 300 gal I have a mated pair of true percs and a black ocellaris. The mated pair are in a RBTA and the black clown wishes he was. The true percs will bite him if he gets anywhere close to their anemone, but won't go after him otherwise.

I think it is best to mix up the sizes making sure there isn't more than one female and add them at the same time.

I started with a pair of true percs that were the same size and one killed the other, she is now my female. Months later I got a very small perc and added him in hopes that she would accept him as her mate. She picked on him horribly at first and he would always submit, then eventually they became a mated pair.

I have mixed pairs, ocellaris and black ocellaris, it seems that originally the orange ones were paired up, at least I received them as such. I added them to my "new to the tank" black ocellaris's. Since they were introduced the pairs have split up, one black and one orange, good thing I have mutiple hosts for them. But I guess they are the same species.
