My crocea looked funky yesterday, then looked better but I'm wondering if this is pinched mantle disease. If so, what can I do about it.?

I've had this clam for almost 2 years and It grew like a weed. I know it's not the light. Changed bulbs 3 weeks ago. I can show you 20 or 30 pictures taken throughout the 2 year period and he is perfect. I'm 100% sure it's not the lighting. I've read that croceas are more proned to pinched mantle than other clams. I'm wondering if this is what it looks like.

What type of lighting are you providing? I'm not saying it is the lighting but from the picture it looks like it is expanding alot more than normal. Also the clam is bleaching a bit this is why I believe it needs more light...

390 watts PC's . But I've been with this clam for 2 years and everday of it, it has been a picture of health. It is only 11 inches deep and my lights rest directly on the tank. It isn't the lights. other wise it would have shown signs earlier. I changed half the bulbs 3 weeks ago. It has grown like a weed. I have at least 30 pictures taken throughout the 2 years and it couldn't have been healthier. This just started yesterday. Does anyone know what pinched mantle looks like?

Pinched mantle is more when it retracts into the shell and when the fleshy part of the clam is kinda shrinking.

Thanks guys, I appreciate everyones input. I'm glad it's not PM. Maybey he's just having a bad day. When I changew bulbs, I only do 1/2 at a time.. I think that even though the bulbs I didn't change this time, are only 5 months old, I think I'll change them a littlew early just give it a little pick me up. Happy Reefing ,Brian

can you post a pic of the clam when you purchased it so we can compare it to now? Light deprivation affects clams over time and not right away. Your clam looks bleached and seems to be reaching for more light.

My thoughts exactly. Croceas can survive under pc's but not to their full potential. I still believe it's a lighting issue according to the pic posted.

you need halide lighting over that clam, or a ton of t5 light... pc's just are not enough light..

Croceas are very light demanding clams. I would say it is not thriving with the PCs and looks like it is bleaching and struggling to reach for more lights.

I raised it up higher in the tank and I'll see how that does. The earlier pics of clam were before my digital. My copier is messed up and I've got to pull my desk out and check all connections. I've been wanting to fix it for a while now but the way everthing is set up, it's not gonna be easy. If I can fix it then I can scan early pics. If not I gotta get a new one. I'll try for tomorrow. So if it is bleaching a bit then is it definately light deprived. In other words, Is that the only thing that would cause bleaching? I really appreciate your help. If I have to get T-5 light, I will. Does anyone know a good reliable, reasonably priced source?

High water temps will also cause bleaching but that is usually localized. I have had it happen in two squamosa's before, my tank got up to 88 deg. It sits in the same room as my woodstove does and the stove got crazy hot when I wasn't home one day.
I purchased my Tek t5 fixture on ebay, it's a 48" and I think I paid like $500 with 6 bulbs and a hanging kit.
