Day 6 of new nano tank. These pictures don't really show everything. But I guess this cycle of diatom is normal

I'm guessing its spreading so fast cause of the high flow in my tank which I think I'm going to slow down a bit. Anyone care to chime in to rest my fear over my first time reef tank

Not to worry. It is a normal part of the cycling process. It will go away. Some people will probably say otherwise, but I would get some astraea snails. Probably 3 of them. They will take care of that algae and keep it under control.
Sorry, I dont remember at the moment if your running a sump/refugium or not. If you are, get some cheato. It will help eat up the nutrients feeding it. You can also get a turkey baster and blow it off the surface of everything and then do a water change.

Umm...... It has a natural over flow in The back for the two pumps filter. Thermometer and skimmer, I don't have a sump or refugium. But I do plan on putting sea horses in it. So maybe I could stick the plant directly in The tank. It's also why I'm going to take the two 500 gph circulation pumps out, and replace it with just on 700 gph circulation head.

Ok so water testing done. Ammonia 0.0ppm, PH 8.4, alk 179ppm, calcium 460ppm, phosphate 0.0ppm, nitrate 0.0ppm, nitrite 0.0ppm, SG 1.025......... Yeah I did it 3 times just to make sure everything was the same. Lol. I'll test every other day from here on out. And upload pics everyday of the progression of my tank.

Wouldn't that flow be too much for sea horses? I thought they liked low flow tanks? I'd double check it just be safe as I could be wrong.

Yeah I did it last night. They'll stay towards the bottom of the tank so I'll point the 700 up a long with the return pumps in The tank. But ill tune everything first. The sea horses are the wifes wants. And this is my hobby/project. So we will see
