I was at lowes today about to buy $50 worth of John Guest fittings and the person that worked there told me they were only good for cold water (60 degrees and below). She said they'd fail in 79 degree water over time. I had never heard of this. Anyone confirm or deny this is the case?

"With time and water, all things change" is a favorite of mine...... so I cannot say she is full of cwap, but close enough.

In looking through all the Jguest fittings for my cooling loop, I found that some were rated for extreme cold (below 25f) and some for extreme heat (up to 168f). The rest seemed to fall in the middle.

Check McmasterCarr for these. You can get far better for close to the same $$ from Depot/Lowes. D

Look up "push-in tube fittings"
