Jon’s 55 gallon cube build

So I have been out of the hobby for over seven years due to a house remodel but I am finally getting close to filling my new setup with water! Thought I would share some pictures of the build progress.

The good news about having seven years is I could split up purchasing all of the equipment I needed. :becky:

Some specs of what I have going:

• 55 gallon cube tank built by Oceans by design – 24w x 24d x 22h
• Nyos Quantum 160 Protein Skimmer (hope it works as good as it looks)
• Filtration sump – 23w x 22d x 14h
• Refugium – 20w x 20d x 14h
• Kessil A360N / A360W-E

I got the plumbing done and did the leak test. :becky:

It holds water!

Iwaki MD20RLT Water Pump (Japanese Motor) with a stand made from poplar. I have not used an external pump before. It seems to run a bit hot, but from looking online this seems normal for this type of pump?

Looking really good!
What are your plans for stocking it down the line? Cubes make really nice coral displays, always seems harder to me to figure out the fish though, since tank size recommendations were based on 'standard' size tanks which almost always have longer runs than cubes.

My current plan is to have a pair of clownfish and soft corals. I do wish I had room for a 36 inch long by 24 deep tank. Maybe next time.

Ah, cool. I really like cube tanks, depth to the wall makes a great presentation. Everything has its trade-offs.
