Very helpful I have always wanted to do this to a biocube that's been sitting in my garage for ever.

Yeah sorry about that guys, works been super crazy, holidays ya know......as soon as I get time to take it in and get it drilled at oiab. I'll post pic. I guess I still need to do a water test, but man the perfectionest in me thinks the silicone job I did kinda sucks.......so......probably gonna do it again.

Oh another thing, I'm not the only one who's done this to a jbj, But it seriously took me forever to find anything even related to it. But came across a dude that works at my lfs who did this himself. They also assured me that the back of the tank was Not tempered.

Ok guys here's a quick pic of the tank drilled with an overflow box

Once the tank has been cleaned up tomorrow I'll post better pics. Just gonna say I'm excited :D. Doing a build the way you want it the first time is definitely the way to go. Instead of waiting the second time around.
? For you guys should I keep the brace like thing or cut it off......

Yes sir it is. Its always better to do something your way the first time. I hate redoing.
Glad to see your still workin at it and updating.

Keep the brace is usually better, in a 28g I don't think it matters as much as a longer tank with more volume but its still nice to have the extra brace.

Sorry guys haven't really been doing anything with the tank. Money is being saved for our first home. yay! But I'm still trying to decide on lighting for the tank as in some point I will upgrade tanks. And looking into skimmers. Will have to start plans for a custom sump or sumps haven't decided that either.

Imo led of course. Get a used tank for a sump. One set of baffles for a return. Plumbing would prob b another $60 :(
oh and a skimmer and return pump. Still need stuff. Sweet build though can't wait for life!

Yeah for the return into the tank I'm doing loc-line, 2 y splits, four 6" loc-line tubes, four wide nozzles, so I can create as much multi directional flow with in the dt. With a 1800 gph return pump. I'm assuming after head loss and the splits I'll average around 35 times the turn over rate. Which is great :) and the sump has to be custom because I'm using the original stand that comes with the jbj tank. With electrics on the sides.
As far as skimmers I can't decide if I'm going to get the bubble Magnus 3 or just see how to hard plumb obd's skimmer right into the gravity feeds plumbing. And then have that empty into the sump where I'm going to have my chemical, and biological filters at and return pump.
All in the air for now. I'll take pics of the stand. And post it. to see if anyone can help brain storm.

Man i have been gone for far to long. As life creates changes, and we have to adjust for that change. Things have finally settled down and i can pick back up where they left. So bought a skimmer thats completely over rated for my tank. But couldnt pass up an 80 buck deal lol. So based on that i couldnt have a a 10 gallon diy sump and upgraded it to my 20 long. At some point during my move i cracked it so a needed repair concluded my buying my glass to make my sump

To start out i bought my glass from homedepot and i was thinking bigger sheets for less means more.glass. wrong it would be eaiser to work with less glass. The bigger glass sheets made it hard to keep equal pressure with the cutter. And when i would go and snap the glass sheets it would break in other places.

I found out that breaking te glass apart with a broomstick made it easier and a more accurate break

Im definitely a learn as you go when it comes to this kind of diy projects. Which doesnt help. So so.in the future a will probably do more watching on youtube, lol.

I then cut out my baffles, but due to some bad measurements which was not accounting for the 1/2" loss to the glass panes on the inner measurement. They rest at angles bwahahaha........

When i started planning everything out i ditched the designated filter sock section, and decided to combine it in the skimmer section. So that i could have adequate space for my skimmer, baffles(1.5" apart), my media rack(maybe) and return section.

I also ordered my loc-line plumbing. I will have the 2 returns split into 4 nozzle that flow directly into the dt. So next step is to build my custom stand to fit the sump. And lighting which will be a reef star fixture.

Now here's a question. This tanks over flow is rated for 1300gph and the pump im get is a mag 9 or 12 so with out any splits or head pressure loss. The turn over rate for the entire system is 29 tines the volume of water. Is it going to effect the skimmers ability to filter my water. The skimmer is rated for a 150 gallon tank. And holds based of a internal level of 8" to 9" will be about a gallon of water in the skimmer.

I have a jbj 28 gallon also that my wife wants to turn into a zoa tank. I'm thinking I may try the same thing you did. What size diamond drill bit did you use on it?
