Hey I keep hearing about these Setosa frags, but I've yet to see one in my tank! What's the scoop???

I will have some in late January.......................... possibly the 24th.................. You know the cost ;).

I just don't cut many frags anymore, I haven't fragged anything in over a year, so if you take a look on the left hand side of my tank, you will know what you are getting.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming..................... Sorry Kim :).

Didn't mean to mess up Kim's thread!
No worries, it's all good! Glad you're following along!

Nice looking stuff you got there Charlie! I was looking up M. Setosa and it looks like it isn't very common. Since it's an SPS, I'm guessing peaceful in nature, and moderate to high lighting . . . ? What does yours seem to like in your tank? It's a beautiful kind of hot pink / orangy red with a very strange growth pattern. Cool! I think it would look fabulous next to a deep purple SPS.

Cross your fingers that she doesn't decide it's snack time . . . let me know how it goes :)

Wow.......................... what a nice way to put the fact that the Angel could absolutely devour about 8 Acans and not even think twice about my feelings towards said Acan.

I just fed them and transferred the coral, let us see what transpires ;)

wow Kim, that Monti has really grown. you are really doing a nice job setting up your new system. keep taking all precautions, it'll pay off in the end.

thanks for the pics

Thanks Rob. I thought you might like to see how big it grew for me. I'm excited to see what it'll do now under these lights.

hi Kim, it's been a couple weeks, have you added anything new to the 75? I think you are being really smart going slow, quarantining and dipping everything. I hope you had a great Christmas and Happy NewYear!!!

Thanks Rob! Happy New Year to everyone! Yes, I've been busy in my tank and moved a few things over, and also acquired a few new things too. I went ahead and broke the orange plating coral off and moved it in chunks over to the new system too. I got inspired about where to put them yesterday. The blasto and trumpet are also both in there now.

Here is what the coral looked like prior to removing it. **sigh** So pretty . . .

And a full tank shot today of it in place, over on the left.

The fairy wrasse is still the lone ranger in the tank and is doing really, really well. I have fallen in love with fairy wrassses, if he's any indication of what the rest of them are like. There are so many! He is adorable . . . is always very eager to come see me and feed, and is always out swimming. And the beautiful colors!! He's very comfortable in there. I also have an ignitus anthias in QT right now that is doing great too. Eating cyclops well, and looks really healthy. What a beautiful fish . . . peach, lavender, pink and yellow tones. I only got one as I didn't want a shoal, or the problems. I haven't had to treat either new fish for anything, which is nice. Just get them relaxed and eating before going in to the big tank. I plan on introducing this little anthias in an acclimation box for a couple of days so there's no fighting. He's only about 2" long, so still a youngster.

I also picked up a fluorescent pink yuma as I've always thought they were really cool looking. It's really sensitive! I have it in complete shade while it acclimates to the lighting, and am dosing iodide now and then to help. I dipped it in an iodine based coral dip after the parasite dip before putting it in just to make sure it wasn't suffering from any infections. Even though it's been in there over two weeks, it still seems very sensitive to light.

Here's what it looks like under regular lighting.

AND, I picked up my favorite, the elusive neon green hammer coral! It had to be the branching one. After I lost the little polyp that Rob gave me, I've been looking for another one, and I found one over the holidays. Yay! The polyps on this are HUGE compared to the regular colored one I have.

I also am going to move my regular one over to the big tank, so there will be both in there. I found out how much my clown fish has fallen in love with that thing when I fragged a chunk off for the new tank. I went to pull it out of the tank and she followed it all the way up to the surface . . . and then jumped! She thankfully landed back in the tank, but she was really upset! I took what I wanted off, and then put the remainder back in for her. It was hilarious . . . as soon as the hammer started to go back in, she followed it down and then gently nose-bumped several of the closed polyps, like she was making sure it was her beloved hammer coral. I let her bite me a few times, just so she would feel better.

Hi Kim - That Monti looks great! I had a huge one that bleached and went to the great Monti-in -the-sky beyond along with a purple and 2 of 3 orange varieties that were in the tank at that time. The green w/ purple rim was my favorite. :eek:hwell:

Hi Kevin - yes, I've had many occurrences of monti caps bleaching out and dying. I have always been able to save a piece and start over, but very frustrating and looks terrible in the meantime. I've been pretty successful for the last year or so though with them, and think that maybe they need a fairly high, consistent Ca level . . . ?? Just a guess. The purple rim is also a favorite of mine too, and I'm going to locate one for the new tank someday. Very cool looking coral.
