I have what i beleive is a toad stool leather. I need to remove a LTA that is wedged in beween two rocks. So to get to him I must remove a few other rocks, cause he is at the bottom(LTA).

My problem is the leather has also wedged itself in between two rocks. It looks like he is growing onto both rocks. Will it desterb him if i move him very carfully, one rock is small (baseball sized) the other is branchy. Could i break the branch off?

I am worried that i will damage him.

Any way to get a picture of the situation? It might help with diagnosing the risk.

Hello,
Sarcophyton sp. are quite hardy. You can gently pull the rock off or cut the coral from the rock. The cut portion will regrow another colony.

Regards,
Kevin

you mean I can just cut the side I don't want attached and it won't hurt the coral? I know this sounds stupid but, is it gonna bleed or something. Do i cut it with a razor.

Wow that seems too simple, it will regrow a new peice from the base? I thought you had to trim the top? Thats why i am asking the pros!!

The leather can be gently pulled or cut and saved with no problem. It won't bleed, but it may be unhappy for a few days or more.

I'm sorry just not sure how much to cut? Very little? Can I cut the whole base and "replant" it? and then split the two rocks?

On your first attempt, I'd just stick with the orignal plan to remove one of the rocks, before getting into fragging. ( If that's what it was?)
Many leathers will regrow if there is enough of the orignal left behind. I have some finger leathers that needs very little left behind to regrow.

agreed with all the above leathers are very hardy and will grow back. just take a razor blade and cut it off of the rock it will be mad for a few days and will bounce back.

OK, Sorry to inconvenience anyone. I was just looking for help. Not to make anyones life "harder than it really is". I thought it was alittle hard myself when I was left hanging. For what ever reason I was left hanging, not sure, all I was trying to do was remove a LTA. I asked, people started to tell, then no one wanted to help???? Why, what did I do? I just wanted to make sure that I was doing it right! I thought that was the whole idea of a forum, to help? not sure why it happened, but it really made me feel like I was bothering people, makes it hard to ask questions now.

WITH THAT SAID---TO THE ONES WHO DID HELP

KRISH-THANK YOU BROTHER-ALWAYS THERE TO HELP EVEN IF HE'S NOT SURE, HE TRIES
MFINN-THANK YOU- YOU TOLD ME WHAT I NEEDED TO HEAR, AND EASED MY MIND ( a little)

This morning when I got up, the leather had its tenticles out towards the sun light coming thru the window!

No problem at all Jeremy and don't feel un-comfortable about asking anything here. You are right and this is what the forum is for to ask questions so ask whatever questions you have. :) I dont think it was intentional that you got the notion that people left you hanging . I think some may have taken it that they answered your question telling you what to do and that all was understood so they probably didn't check back on the thread. I guess they didn't realize you still were a bit un-sure and needed them to be a bit more specific for you, but I wouldn't worry man. These guys here love to help so continue to ask your questions. :)

Hello,
Were you able to get it cut/moved? In your case I try to leave some amount of the coral attached to each rock. This makes it so you don't have to worry about mounting the separate pieces. For this type coral even a small amount of tissue left behind will regrow. They can be split top down, trimmed off the cap, or even chop it halfway up the stalk. In each case both remaining portions will regrow in time. A scalpel, razor blade, or a sharp pair of scissors will work.

HTH,
Kevin

Kevin,
Thank you, that is what I needed to hear! I just wanted to make sure I didn't kill this animal. It took alot for me to cut him, but the way it was tearing off the rock seemed worse to me! But after the top of the head started to tear, then I really got worried. Should I have cut him under water? I'm not sure how he started to tear, I noticed it after I cut. When I got up this morning he had a few tenticles out in the sunlight!

Well first off you are not bothering anyone If you took offense to what I said then that's sad I sent you 3 video links and explained it to you in a pm. A lot of people just makes it to be harder then it really is that is all I'm sorry if I offended you was not meant to be that way

None taken, I did receive your links and I appreciate that! I did not think it was hard, just needed more info, like kevin gave me. I like to be sure, and i like to know what I am in for. I really do APPRECIATE everyones help.

the leather looks alot better today, even the tears on top look to be healing. Even the peice on the rock looks like its closing it's wound.

Again Thank You to all that have helped! I can't express enough how much! I live in a place that I have to drive 85 miles to talk to someone who knows anything.
