Led light mount rail

I have a few different ways to hang a light.
Can you have your light rack sit on top of the tank?
How many lights?

I currently have my 2 evergrows hanging from the wall with brackets. I don't really care for the look, and I also can't adjust their position much. I was also thinking that I might want to add a 4 puck at some point. I have see light racks that sit on top of the tank, but I don't really want to put anything on top of my acrylic tank and the legs tend to get in the way when I am armpit deep cleaning the thing. So all those reasons resulted in me looking for a rail that attaches to the back of the stand and comes up from the back. I've seem people make them out of metal conduit, and that might be my backup option if I can't find someone that can make one out of square tubing.

I made a conduit hanger for my T5 fixture ( still have it) for my 50 and it was OK. Attached on the back of the stand.
I made a light rack for 3 Radions over my 240 using materials from Product Catalog - Parts, Components, Accessories, Order | EZ Tube - International Designs
They have 1" sq. powdercoated alum. stainless steel, and powdercoated steel tubing.
Maybe there is something that might give you a idea.

cool, how snug do those connectors fit? I assume you might be able to screw them together for a more permanent bond? Looking at their gallery Photo Gallery, Pictures, Examples - Lightweight Framing Projects | EZ Tube - International Designs the one with the aquarium and the small light is kinda what I'm looking for...but much wider.

They slip in. Actually you have to pound them in. They are so tight, you have to be perfect the first time. You would tear up the pipe trying to remove them, atleast with the aluminum. IMO once in, they are permanent.
I guess you could shave down the ridges a little on the connectors to make them a little less tight.

Running a double cross beam like I did, I could hang 10 times the amount of weight I have on there now.

I'm just wondering if I use the eztube and connectors and make a overhang that extends out 12 inches. Will it hold the weight of the lights? or would I need to add a bracing in there somewhere under the 90.

You planning on bolting to the back of the stand?

yep, figure 4 lag bolts on each upright. If 2 upright is not going to hold the weight, maybe a third?

My best suggestion would be for you to actually come to my house and see what it feels like in person.
I'd hate to recomend something and not have it turn out like you wanted.

I haven't looked at the brunnerent site to see what kind of connectors they sell, but I noticed some 1" x 2" tubing there.

BTW...the way the guy on RC used a lcd tv mount was sweet. Swivel to your hearts content.

Been following alone. You may want to consider when you mount the bracket to the back of the stand I would suggest you have 2 mounting points. 1 at the top back and 1 at the bottom back. Seems like you will have some weight hanging out over the tank.
