OK I read up on the cyclop-eeze. it looks like a good product but thier is one thing that kind of scares me a bit, they use ethoxyquin as a peservative. this stuff has a history with bad effects on other types of pets such as dogs and so on. it is also chemcally listed with the Dept. of Agriculture as a pesticide...hmmmmm. I am not sure what the bearing of this is but I think i will pass for now on it until more folks have used it for longer perionds of time.

I just wanted to say welcome to SPC and NaH2O and to keep the great quality posts coming.

I can't comment on the topic as I don't have any new information to bring to light, but I am sure glad you went with the topic Mike. There is some great stuff here.

Does anyone target feed thier mush to specific corals or are you just putting frozen portions in the tank and relying on suspension of detritus and left over DOS from the mush? I have heard of people placing a gallon jug with a cut off bottom over a colony and using a baster to feed via the top hole of the jug... Just wondering if anyone does this?

ok, i found this on another website discussing cyclop-eeze:

Fishing for adult Cyclop-eeze typically commences in early June. The harvested copepods are drained and immediately flash frozen into 750 g. wafers, and vacuum sealed. A small amount of the antioxidant Ethoxyquin is added prior to flash freezing to retard oxidation.

mattseattle, I found on the Cyclop-eeze website, brochure section page 9 "Further, all deep frozen Cyclop-eeze are treated with the biologically safe antioxidant ethoxyquin". On page 10 of the brochure, Freeze dried, "contains a sufficient amount of the antioxidant ethoxyquin".

Yea kinda weird on the cyclops thing that this hasnt been discussed before. Nikki I saw it on the same place as you. then did a couple of searches and one on the d of a. I guess it would all have to do with how much. most all frozen foods and such contains peservatives, this is why I like to stay away from them.

Erik thier are a few corals that require feeding such as you discribed, Sun polyps are one. for more I just thaw the mush in ro water and then drain the juice, then a slow feed for the fish and shrimps and stuff. From that some food particles drift around and then a host of poop/detritus, it is that that feeds the corals that may need it.

Anyone know what concentration the ethoxyquin is in the product? I was considering contacting them to find out. Just for curiosity's sake. I've read that the FDA (CVM - division) lowered the maximum level for ethoxyquin in complete dog foods to 75 ppm, due to some health issues with lactating female dogs.

I'm glad I can get on now too. Cyclop-eeze is the only food that I use with any regularity besides blender mush in my reef tank so thanks for bird-doggin' this for us.

I'll occassionally use Golden Pearls but very rarely due to the high phosphate concentration. If I'm in a hurry, I'll throw a frozen Formula One cube in my Mantis nano but I will never put this in my reef----way too many nasties in it.

Actually the squid I purchase are already cleaned and I just use the body part, never seen any ink.

Thanks Eric!

I target feed my anemone only with the mush, but the jug thing works well on LPS corals as far as what I have read.

I know some of you mentioned a desire to know the specific nutritional value of the the fish you choose to use in your mush.

well that is more of a response than what i got. i didn't receive a reply back to my email asking pretty much the same thing. nice customer service, that is for sure. you should call then and ask and comment on their customer service.
