Anyone know of one with out spending over $300? I was planning on buying one today but if i could get pointed in the right direction i'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Nick

I have the 7.2 megapixel sony cybershot. It works great. I like the sony cameras because they have the fastest shutter of the point and shoots. Which makes it nice when taking pictures of fish.

Those both look like great cameras.
And from what I understood the can interchange certain lenses.
Your best bet is to go to a camera shop and try try them out and see which one feels better. good luck

Like Chris said... make sure you find a camera that has very little shutter lag if you plan on shooting fish. You should be able to compare shutter lag between cameras by looking at their specs. This is a common 'problem' with point and shoot cameras. DSLRs don't have this issue but they are probably a bit over your price range, bigger, and not so portable and fun to carry around as much. So if you are looking for a camera to carry about... a good P&S with minimal shutter lag would be the choice. If you are planning to get 'serious' about your photography and want to do some slow shutter (long exposure) or macro work with tripod then a DSLR is the path.

How do i know if its an EF type?

Look on the lens you have it should have ef on it.
I am pretty sure is will fit but do a search on google for your make and mount type. Even if it is not EF you could still use it manually.
Good idea is to ask a local camera shop.

Nick,

I just (February) purchased a Canon Digital Rebal 6.3M from E-bay. Came with stock 18-55mm lens. Ended up costing me $329.75 with shipping.

EXCELLENT CAMERA!!!

Many people are upgrading to the XTi right now, and selling their old 6.3M cameras.

The main thing is, it is a true SLR camera. The lens is what makes the SLR camera, not the amount of mega-pixels!!!

With a 6.3M picture, I can easily print any picture I take, up to just over 8.5" X 11", with no pixalation. True, if I wanted to print a POSTER, this wouldn't be a large enough mega-pixel camera... and the 10M cameras would be better. But... honestly, especially with a digital camera, what do you want it for??? For viewing pictures on your Computer. Graphics resolution on your monitor isn't much more than 96dpi... so even a 19" monitor doesn't even show a 8.5" X 11" picture without some good scrolling!

True, the 18-55mm lens isn't the best of lens... but now that I do own the digital camera, as I get more $$$, I can add the nicer lens to my camera, and take some very impressive pictures!

Also, being digital, unlike the old film cameras... you can take a quick 50 or 60 pictures of your tank, and instantly look at how they turned out on your computer! Learning how to use the camera in all its various modes is much easier because of that!

Just a thought for you, in your search for a camera.

Well the main reason i wanted to go with the G7 was because it has an underwater case that i can get for it and use it to take pictures of when i go snorkeling at the reefs in Mexico. Plus i want to get into Scuba diving soon and i wanted to use a camera to take excellent underwater pictures.

"by the way... the "film" Canon Rebel's... use the EF lens mount also. Interchangable lens."

So then technically i could buy a slr camera Body and just use the lenses i already have? That would be awesome if thats the case. Because i already have a macro lense for the camera.

Being able to do underwater pictures would be a very nice bonus with a different style camera. I know there are "professional" camera boxes for most of the high-end digital cameras, but those come with a "Professional" price which I wouldn't be happy about paying for.

Yes, the EF lens mounts are interchangable, so what you currently have for your film Rebel, will work on a Digital Rebel, macro lens and all!

Well i may be getting two cameras now in the future.

the DSLR cameras are excellent quality these days. The lens have advanced by leaps and bounds, Your lens if bought some thine ago will work but just be a tad slower.

Keep an eye on the web site I posted as a lot of professionals use that site for trade ins.:)

Cool thanks a lot for your help. I wish there was a way i could look up and see if there was a camera place by me. The only one i ever knew of closed up. All thats left now are photographers.
