Whats the difference?

I have a friend who designs electronics for a living. He thinks he can whip me up a pretty bad ass LED system for not much money. But we're trying to pick the right spectrum of LED (they are surprisingly available in reef-type spectrums)

And btw, if he succeeds in building me this light, it won't be some hand made job. We'll have the circuit board printed by a company he orders from, and I'll order like 15-20 of them. If it works, we'll sell a couple. Like I said, he does this for a living...

Neither of our Googling has led us to a answer. It seems some LEDs list one spec, some list another. But we aren't sure if they are the same...

I've seen several threads about different diy projects on Reef Central and Reef2Reef.
You might look them up and see what they are using.
