Does any one have any hands on experience with a magnetic stirrer kalk reactor. What I want to know is how much wear actually happens to the base of the reactor over time.
There's alot of internet comments that they wear the bottom of the reactor. Most of those comments are from people that have never used one.
Also if anyone has lab experience, I'd like to hear what kind of wear damage they to do glass.

Thanks
Don

Don some reactors have the tube glued right to the top of the stirrer other folks put it under the reactor chamber and have the acrylic inbetween the peg and the stirrer.

I just bought one, if you want to take a peek at.

Thanks Mike. I'm putting a small one together. I noticed all the commercial units have a wear plate, usually just uhmw tape. If they really do wear the bottom as bad as claimed I was going to look at glass. I was thinking I would countersink a microscope slide into the base as a wear plate. Ive already got the Hanna stirrer, just need to make this last decision.

What brand did you end up with?

Excellent thread Don. I was thinking of making one myself. Where did you get the magnetic stirrer from? Any pictures of the one you are making?

TIA

I will post some pics as I start glueing it together. You can get the Hanna's all over the internet. Mine came from sciencelab.com, they have good service.
I'm trying to build mine as small as possible, the goal is to get 4 days running 24/7 and more when running by the automation controller. So far a 3 1/2 tube 17" tall is going exactly 4.5 days running 24/7@2g per day.
