Ok for your viewing pleasure, a set of photos of a tank that I was asked to repair, rebuild and maintain. As you can see it has trouble. The overflow has steady been dripping on the very nicely built stand that is really not built for this kind of stuff. You guessed it, its falling thru. Tommorow I am going to drain the tank, remove the rock. install a 3/4 exterior grade plywood that now has 3 coats of spar marine poly on each side. Much bracing and then replace it. Also changing to a cpr overflow with aqualifter, and adding a asm g1x skimmer. (wont fit a bigger one) But here are some photos and if you have any wonderfull ideas I am all ears. I am also going to make her sign that since the tank has been sitting shifted, I can not be held in any way liable for seam damage or glass breakage. I told her about this many months ago, and would not touch it again untill she paid to have done right.

If your sitting at home think WTF.......??????????????? were they thinking. She bought the house on forclosure, the people that did this are gone somewhere else. The best part is the 15 gallon sump for a 150 tank and the skimmer that ran off 80 gph power head with a airline stuck in the inlet. No wait the best part is the lights hanging over open water on chains and bent nails. No maybe its the salt INCRUSTED powerstrips. Or it could be rubber ends with no clamps on the overflow drop hoses. Or.. I will stop now. I am just being rude. LOL Steve

I just have to ask what do you all think of the electrical cords as a background with the salt dried all over the tank?

Looks like that one is going to be fun Steve....good luck and let us know how it comes out.

Now that's what you call a tank! LOL. It looks like a ship wreck! You're right, What in the world were they thinking. It looks like a "bush job" (that's what they call butchered jobs here). Like they say, "You can take them out of the bush, but you can't take the bush out of them". Boy I'll love to see you turn that puppy around. Good luck. Sorry it's you, but glad it ain't me!

I love the way the powerstrip is hanging right over the tank..lol. Scale shocker...
I can't wait to see the end result, it looks like a lot of fun and hard work, but I'm sure your used to that. Anyway good luck and keep us posted. What size/type wood are you using for the bracing??

I am trying to make it as low cost as possible to do it right. Its just going to cost alot, and thats all there is to it.

The bracing is just going to be 2x4s I dont have really any room. I am just going to make two I beams in each cabinent under the tank. For a total of 4 I beams Actually more like a T with a upside down T. LOL

Looks like you got your work cut out for you. Ah, it'll keep ya busy for the next few weeks or so. Are you going to keep us updated on it's progress? It would be good to follow what goes on. What are you gonna do with the electrical?

Its going to have to stay the way it is, till I can get her to buy lights. I already replaced the powerstrip underneath. It was laying in a pile of crystalized salt. How it never caught on fire I dont know. I have some corallife strips compacts that are just hanging around maybe I can get her to buy those. Its only going to be a fish only tank.

I would be really surprised when you get it releveled out and supported if the tank doesn't leak or even break :( After sitting like that for so long I'm surprised it hasn't errupted already.

Good luck and best wishes

and some more its up and running started this morning a 8 getting ready got there at 11 worked there till 11 pm. Just got home a little while ago. Woooooo............. Im tired. LOL

Nice job, throw some cherry stain on that plywood in front and call it good. Like the rockwork. I see that Kreg tool worked again.....

Well I guess I missed this one but looks like you did one heck of a great job, I hope this lady knows what you did for her, heck you took the time to cover everything (flooring) so well, I never done that for myself LOL! On the electrical, I'd replace all of the power strips, being so close to salt water these will corrode internally, you may never see a problem with them, they are cheap. Other than that it looks awesome, throw in some softies frags & she may get you to convert the whole thing LOL!

Oh, yeah. Next step is crown moulding routed out to fit all the way around. Then american dj power panels, compacts retrofits. Thanks guys. That was all that we could do at one time. Its just going to take a while. Partial payment was in marshal island live rock. That was just all that could be done right now.
Steve
