yep G~ 's is what I was thinking to. you want a slow build up of the surge bucket. I would draw water from the other side, more likely to be the detritus build up area. on the heater I would look to a inline (fire plug type)

ok this is what I am going to go with
final.gif

I'll have is cut and the tank done by tomorrow night if nothing else comes up

the return is going to be on the bottom of the tank well an inch above the bottom. The surge return is 2 inches under the water line

are those shut-offs just showing us where you are putting valves and unions?

G~

just the shutoffs better be safe than sorry, 6 unions, one fore and aft of each appliance

Are the plans for the tidal pool to be flush with the floor or to be raised up a bit? I am assuming it will not be flush (considering the sump and what not) but that was my first impression when reading your description.

THe lighting might be the next big issue depending on how far off the ground the tidal pool will be. The pendants could create a visibility problem or hinder your original intent (for kids to be able to gaze in), or might even cause some 'sunburns" if too high. Could you somehow mount halides around the sides, angling them at the tidal pool (similar to some sort of accent lighting type setup)? Any ideas here reefsupply?

Take er easy

the pool is going to be 3 1/2 - 4 feet,Due to insurance and saftey concerns, The lighting is still an issue but I have some ideas with T-5s, they are smaller and can be in a stip above the tank about 3 foot. this will limit the stock in the tank but its just an idea

I am going to add a second surge outlet 1/2 down the system a much small surge, also 2 or 3 inlets at around 200 ghp on a closed system. Just a little worried about water quality

I take it you are fiberglassing this or something along those lines, but are you going to pant it with a sand and epoxy mix to give it a more natural look? Just wondering about the esthetics.

Great thread. :D

Thanks for all the posts here Steven. This is really turning into a good thread. I am looking forward to seeing the final results! Have fun and keep up the good work

Ya it's coming around but right now I keep running in my head to Fiber glass or try the agro cement. The cement would be much cheaper Glassing is going to cost around 150 bucks and around 1 1/2 weeks. The concrete will be $44 for the cement and $8 for the 2 color dies. But I am worried that the Cement would mess with the PH due to leaking. I was looking for some suggestions before I do it but I think I am going to try the Concrete, Because this one is the test bed if it works well I will make a 11 x 4 1/2 for the store. Plus the Doc yelled at me today. Told me to stay off my feet ankle isn’t healing right. I told him I was only doing jumping jacks. So I have to slow down a bit, ya right.

You could try concrete and then seal it w/ a 2 part epoxy. I don't really know how much money this would save? HTH

Reefsupply you could always look into the spray in liner... I have done some tidal pools with that and it works great.
