Marks on my crocea clam

Hello,

I bought a crocea clam in October 2011, which had a mark on its mantle:

This mark seems to be spreading to other parts of its mantle. This is one of its latest pictures:

The clam was kept under a 250W SE BLV 10000K MH bulb with Lumenarc mini reflector until March 2011. However, it has been kept under 6 X 39W T5 tubes (ATI Sunpower) since then. The clam receives around 600 mmol PAR and has been growing steadily. My recent water parameters are as follows:

Ca: ~425 ppm
KH: 8.60 dKH
Mg: 1380 ppm

pH: 7.80-8.15
NO3: 0.1 ppm
PO4: <0.008 mg/l

Is this something I should worry about?

I wouldnt think so, looks more like pigmentation markings.

All mt croceas had golden colors. The better th lighting the more gold they had.

That's not much of a ph swing at all. As for the markings my T. Crocea has the same ones. It's doing wonderfully! 1+yrs in my tank

Please share your secret for this minimal ph swing. I can go .17 in 24hours (but generaly around .1)and have that 50g display fuge on reverse light cycle, my alk is 9dkh and have my apex dose alk at the begining of low ph periods and even run and extrenal air pump from outside air to my skimmer intake.

Agree, of this is the swing in 24hrs, it's a lot.

Thanks for all the replies.

The swing is in 24 hours, but does not seem to affect any animals adversely. The range of swing changes when the amount of chaeto in my sump changes. Surely, the swing in pH cannot be the cause of the markings on my crocea, can it? If it did, all my clams would be affected, would they not?

That swing is fine for a 24hr period, actually normal. If anything I would lean more towards it being a light issue, to little if anything. I wouldn't worry about it though as your clam looks healthy

Sure looks like normal pigmentation to me. Your clams look very healthy.

That clam looks quite healthy and is just getting more colors.

As far as the Ph swing, my tank reads from 7.8 at day to 7.5 in the morning. Everything is growing and I dont worry about it. My probe needs recalibrated but it is still swinging three tenths.
