May have to evacuate

LOL It's been an exciting evening, to say the least. I got lots of great photos of SWAT in action, including the guy surrendering, as soon as SWAT's assualt vehicle showed up. Until then, he'd barricaded himself in, threatening to shoot anyone who tried to enter. Don't think I've seen so many assault shotguns and AR15s in one spot before. Now we're just nervously waiting to hear a big boom...lol.

Bomb Squad has been on scene for a couple hours now. We're pretty sure, but not positive that they've moved the bomb up the hill into that field to the north east of us, towards the park, further away from all of our homes.

A couple of hours ago, after their initial inspection of the explosive, they expanded their barricade by a block, including our home, but didn't evacuate us. They did tell us that there's a chance we'd need to evacuate though.

Ohhh, the robot just entered the garage...

ohhh get shots of the mushroom cloud from your window!! wheres that telescoping zoom when you need it ;)

HAHA You know me, I had the camera in hand, the entire evening. Heck, I didn't need the telephoto lens, it was that close!

Head between your legs and pray!

That's kinda how we all slept...lol

Wow, that is some crazy stuff. How is everything doing?

This morning, all is well. The neighborhood is quiet except for the birds singing. The only sign that anything happened last night is an intersection full of sunflower seed shells where the tactical teams were all set up...lol

If he thought he had testosterone, when he barricaded himself in, threatening to shoot any officers that tried to enter, he lost it ALL, as soon as the Bearcat showed up. The sight of that armored assault vehicle quickly convinced him that the time to play 'tough guy' was over! He surrendered and it was obvious he knew the drill. He exited the building with his hands up, turned around, went down on his knees...all without any prompting...lol. Eventually, I'll get some photos uploaded of this scene.

Have you sent any pics to the media? I am sure they would love to have some up close pics.

Thats and exciting evening.

Glad everything turned out well and you and family are safe and sound once again Michael

Cheers, Todd

Not yet though I may. The media all showed up, but they showed up after the guy had already surrendered and was in a squad car. A couple people from the media did ask me what photos I'd got. I was able to get photos of SWAT showing up and of the guy surrendering. Unfortunately, I didn't notice that my camera kept focusing on the officers and not on the 'bad guy' so he's a lil' blurry in most of those shots. Later, all of the media was moved a block away while I was able to keep taking pictures, from my yard...lol. Somehow, I missed the robot but got photos of the bomb squad suiting up and such. At one point, since it was dark, I was using my Speedlight and an officer politely asked me to stop using the flash, which I did. Even though nothing was really going on, the flash kept messing with the officer's eyes, though they were just standing around doing nothing...lol. Since he made the request so politely, explaining why, I complied. So I had to crank up the ISO. Uploading photos to the computer now so we'll see how they turn out.

Earlier, I wasn't able to get as many photos as I'd have liked because they 'yelled at me' to get inside...lol. This was before the guy surrendered, while they had his area surrounded by about 20 officers, several with assault shotguns, several with AR15s and then further back, several snipers. They didn't really yell at me but made it clear I needed to get inside. From inside I wasn't able to take the photos I wanted to.

All in all, I'm really proud of how our local law enforcement handled the entire situation. It could have gone a lot worse!

LOL@"lil Spokane" the second largest city in the state. A report came out last week, comparing crime rates and the size of the police departments. Due to budget cuts, which REALLY SUCK, Spokane's police force is right at half the size of Tacoma's, even though Spokane is larger than Tacoma and has a higher crime rate. It's pretty ridiculous. Our officers are spread way too thin and really need more financial support!
