hey guys and girls merry christmas and happy new year
so i thought id make a thread about my tank not that its not important or special but i like to rambble about my tank and seeming how my mum worries so much about it cause its in her living room and always have random questions like can u set up a refgium using a canister filter or is it more like a sump?
well here are some pics and i love taking pics so there will be many more

Hey Morgan! Finally!!!(LOL) Like I've said before, I love your tank. Don't think it's not special because I think it is. I'll be looking forward to some more pictures now...

About using a canister filter for a refugium, I've never heard of that being done before. I guess it would be kinda hard to light up a canister. Sumps are the easiset and best way to go. Best of luck to you and I wish you the best in the up-coming new year!

ahh thats not quiet what i meant by using the canister filter i meant the canister filter takes water from tank cycles through the filter and the in to a 2 foot tank that i would make in to the refigum and then place the hang on protien skimmer in there and then have it pump back in to the main tank? any thoughts

So the canister will suck from the tank and exit into the beginning portion of the refugium, and then what will return the water back to the tank?

i have a similar setup. one of my pumps runs through my protien skimmer and discharges into the refugium. then it runs out into my sump. works well and helps keep out detritus.:)

a pump in the refigum would retuern the water after being filterd and protien skimmed

Oh...Sounds ok other than the fact that your return pump will have to be really tuned perfectly to match the canister otherwise either you'll overflow the sump (if the canister is pumping more gph than your return) or your return pump will burn up if you canister can't keep up with it. And then, on top of all that, if you were to get them to work in sync and one of them for some reason looses it's full potential power, then the same can happen. That is why most people use overflows. No matter what the pump is doing, the water will return to the sump at the same speed as it is being pumped into the tank. Just a thought...

well dosent seem like a good option then
tomorrow i hope to add some more corals i want another fish but think i have to many for my tank as it is was thinking could remove something dont know what as for whats in my tank is as follows

also dosde anyone know what a good carbonate hardness is for ppm im at 160ppm

Nice shots Morgan! I really need to start adding tank some corals to my to brighten up my tank a bit, but I don't want to rush. About the carbonate hardness, I honestly couldn't say. That was one thing I've never tested for, but I'm sure someone will answer soon. However, if you really want it aswered quick, just start a new thread in the general forum and you'd get a response in no time...
