hello everyone, thank you for your help. im moving to a new house nearby about an hour away and had some questions. i have a 29 gallon long with varius fish and coral and from reading other threads on this subject i think i know how to transport those .my rocks though are full of yellow encrusting sponge big ones too, and im unsure of how to bring them . also can i bring my tank with the sand still inside or will that be too heavy. and im moving up to a 90 gallon should i set the 90 up first and let it cycle, will the 29 gallon recycle after i move? any advice or personnal experience would be much appreciated

On those sponges..

Dont subject them to the air. If the rock is small enough use a container in the tank and take them out with that under the water.
If the rock is too big for that it may be difficult to do that.

Just keep them in water and never exposed.

as far as if the 29 gallon is to heavy to move thats up to you to decide if you know hulk hogan im sure he could lift it with water and sand:eek:, just the sand might be ok but i would say put the water in some rubber maids and divide it up to like 3 10 gallon buckets

thats what i would do and itd be alot easier unless your moving all your stuff in a Geo metro, lol

not sure about the sponges but i my self would pull them out of the water long enough to submerge them in one of the rubbermaid buckets and thatd be that

i would fully submerge them if possible so a taller rubber maid might be necessary especiaslly if your that worried about them

it wont be that hard believe me

yeah if you got access to the other house now go ahead and start that 90 gallon up man do what you gotta do you can even add some of the sand and water from your 29 gallon to speed up the process but i would get the 90 gallon at the salinity level you want let it sit for about a day and then add the sand and salt from the 29.

i would say you could add all the sand and salt from your 29 gallon if you aint have those sponges and just start all over on your 29 since im pretty sure you wanna hurry up and get that 90 going but im not sure how fast that tank will cycle for ya!!, and dont want those delicate sponges to die.

well i hope this helps a bit more

good luck!!!

I've moved my 55 before with the DSB still in it, but it's not adviseable, I'd remove the sand just to be on the safe side...

I second that

Its more stress on your tank cause its not at an even level

But your tank aint as long as a 55 but its still more wear and tear I'm sure it can be done and if you had it still on thecstsnd stand straight up in the back of a truck bed sitting back there with it it may be cool but other than that I wouldn't man

But if you do it any way please try to support the bottom more than the sides and for future reference ANY tank bigger than a 29 do not move it with anything in it please

Hope this helps

Yeah I wouldn't try to move a tank with sand and water in there. Think on the safer side you don't want the tank to crack and break while in your hands. It would be a bloody mess if it does happen to break in your hands. JMHO

You really do not want to reuse your old sand after a move or tank change. Once it is disturbed all kind of nastys will be released. You are better off using maybe a cup full to help seed your new bed.
