So the skeleton on my duncans is turning white almost like its bleaching.... or like when a gonipora is dropped or something...any thoughts or advice on wat to do? I noticed it yesterday but today its gotten worse! Is it to late and the coral is doomed?
Ill post a pic in a lil while!

Bring it over...I'll revive it. In the meantime post your water parameters and what is your flow? Are you spot feeding it?

honestly i think my blenny is eating at it! I caught my combtooth scraping at it right after i noticed it!

temp 78.5
salinity 1.025 refractometer
trates 0
trites 0
anmonia 0

I had it lower in the tank and high flow so i moved it up and now its a lot less flow...
i do feed it but havent in a couple days...it did except mysis today!

Is that the purple or green I can't tell in the pic?if it'sEating that's good if you don't see any polyp extension for a week or so that bad.try moving it again or a coral dip

just checked my dkh and its 6 on an api kit....how do i raise it and why is it so low?
Its a green duncan...i think a dip in reveive would just stress it more!

Alk buffer, should be at a min of 8 and 11 for sps. Dosnt look dead just retracted? Mine do it quite often.

It's so low because something is causing your ionic balance to be out of balance. You need to find the cause for that and then you'll know your answer.

36gal bow....i havent done a w/c in like a month or two at least! Ive got water airating right now!
Mainly LPS and softies in tis tank! I think the galaxea, lobo, and sun coral are eating up the cal and stuff though....w/c needed bad! LOL

I used some Ph buffer to keep everything going till tommorow when i can do the change!

LOL just don't over think it do a water change and see what happens. Get some alk buffer or bakeing soda!! I'm allmost out of alk, soda is next on my buffer schedule.

i dont really like to buffer but if i need to than i need too...

ya o dont wanna dump baking soda in it...not that it dont work, just nervous of doing it!

Depending on how heavy you're stocked you may have no choice. Its not hard to do take it slow test often so you don't over dose. Look up calkwasser lime water that may fit the bill.

ya i was told to get pickling lime water or something from somewhere lol but my memory isnt so well...if u cant tell lol

Your alk is low because your trying to keep a reef tank. Dosing and testing are part of owning a reef. When the time comes that your reef is consuming more than water changes can keep up with you have to dose, that is just the way it is. The coraline in your photos looks like its doing pretty good. It will be consuming your CA MG and alk so dose. Its time to get into testing, you should be testing CA MG and Alk and dosing all three accordingly. Test your parameters and use the calculator to dose the proper amounts. What you use to dose is up to you but the DIY three parts are good for beginners. Yes baking soda is the thing to use for alk. You can use lime to dose ca and alk at the same time but it has to be dripped and it doesnt sound like you understand reef chemistry enough to be using lime. Do you have an ato? Its time to start reading up on reef chemistry, in the mean time do some bigger water changes. In reality you should be balancing your water changes which means pre balancing prior to use anyways. This means dosing the water change water with anything that it is lacking prior to use. For example IO needs CA and MG to be in balance before even using. Start reading!

IO? Do u mean RO...i use ro/di...
no ato...
k well ill start testing my cal, alk...every couple days.
Ive got cal mag...guess i need some baking soda too!
I need to buy a mag test! Ive got books...i dont think they say much on dosing though!
On a 36 gal how BIG of a w/c are u talking? I usually do about 5gal.
If i do constant scheduled w/c's...it wont be enough to sustain it?!?!

sound like a good start? Any more tips are appreciated!
