well i think most of the noise is i was running about 1500 gph or more through the sump. i also had my drain pipes about an inch off the surface of the water. that amount of water is going to generate some noise. the standpipes are silent though. i'm not going to be running 1500 gph through the sump when it's up and running. :)

Matt, I have my drains below the surface of the water in the sump and while it's not totally quiet, it's quieter than when they water level is low and it is splashing in.
I have just about 1800 gallons per hour going through.

i put a filter sock on it today and that stopped the noise. now i just hear the sequence barricuda which isn't that loud. the dart is silent.

That's cool man. Glad to hear that. All you need to do is submerge that sequence pump and you won't hear it!:p

*laff* have you ever seen how large a sequence barricuda is? it would take up a good portion of my large sump.

LOL...I could imagine. Just expand your sump:p Really, any ideas how you will quiet it down?

Thats how I was when I put my dart on my 75, and yes they are very quiet.

I totally undestand ur skimmer feed now, i was lil confused on the other thread looks great well thought out.

You can use silicone on your threads instead of tape, works great and is easier to apply.

Scott,
Thanks for the tip on silicone. Actually that would probably work better and probably easier to remove in the end. Teflon tape can be a pain to remove sometimes. I guess silicone can as well.

A picture is worth a thousand words. I think the skimmer feed will work great and be easily controlled.

you have a thread of pictures of your tank?

I have some in my gallery, I'll get some more in there tomorrow

A second vote here to place ball valves on your closed loop outputs. If you ever need to service your OM unit, you wont be able to do it without draining your tank due to your current set up.

That murphy guy will come kick you in the nuts every chance he gets....

Nick

hehehe...

well the ball valves have been in the design since the beginning but just haven't put them on yet. i wanted to test the return system and see how it performed. i get a little anxious sometimes and just want to see how things work. :) i'm draining the tank today and putting the ball valves on as well as fixing a small drip on the return pump. there goes another 160 gallons of water down the drain. :)
