My new sump design

I see, was your friends pump in sump or outside? It looks like there is just a pipe under the egg crate. Did you plan on having no snails inside the fuge or did you just plan on larger ones?

Hes is an external pump, but you could do the same basic thing with a submersible pump, just rather than the egg crate box over the pipe, put in a full egg crate baffle.

To keep the smaller snails out of the pump, have a strainer on the pump. A baffle will not stop snails, they will crawl over them without any problems.

Thanks Kim I think I may use an egg crate baffle or drill holes in a pice of acrylic. I also want to again thank Duane. Thanks again for letting me come by and check out your system. Any further advice you have on this project will be appreciated. I also may call on you regarding some plumbing issues like where to place my gate valves and such.

Last night I cut the Euro Brace off my 55. I used an acrylic cutter and scored it as deep as I could and then I broke the pieces off. It didn't go as good as I'd hoped but the few jaged edges at the top are manageable. On the plumbing side of things I think I have it figured out. Here it goes: I currently have two bulk heads one @ 1.5" with a 1.25" barbed fitting and one at 1" with a .75" barbed fitting, I bought two barbed-threaded couplers. I plan to cut my poly hose and use these as couplers from the poly to the spa-flex which I'll use going to the wall where I'll switch to rigid pvc. So I'll have a 1.5" main drain and a .75" back up drain both pipes will run down 6' run run horizontially 20 feet and then 90 back up about 2-3 feet. I hope this works. For my current return line I use the .75" poly. I don't see any reason to go bigger than 3/4 for the long run, so I plan to follow the same path as the drains with rigid pvc and hook into my current lock line returns if possible. I know this isn't as sexy a thread as a tank build but I really appreciate any input.
