After I finished my initial fresh water test I pumped the water out of the tank and sump. During this task I spilled some water on the floor and it went underneat my stand. I had to move my stand to make sure I dried up all the water uinder the stand. My oak stand sits directly on the oak floor. So I thought to myself while I was doing this, why don't I just run a bead of clear silicone between the stand and the oak floor so that no water can get underneath there from outside the stand. The stand is going to be moved any time soon anyway. What do you think? Could there be any long term affects getting the silicone off the floor?

i wouldn't imagine so. silicone is pretty easy to get off with just a putty knife even if it's been on for a year or so.

my thought is if you are going to be that paranoid about water getting on the floor i'd move the tank to the garage or basement.

Matt,
if I had a basement I would. As for the garage, I already have two holding tanks in there. Where am I going to parg the cars and my tools? :D

as Matt said, silicone is pretty easy to get off of things

the only issue i could see with runnung a bead around your stand would be if for some reason water would get underneath the stand from the sump, etc, it would be trapped

if you want to take the paranoia a bit further, lol, you could seal the inside of the stand so if you did get some water in there it wouldnt go through the cracks and then down to the floor, just a thought :)

Jay,
when I had my stand built I had the builder make the stand floor removeable, but sealed against water with silicone just in case water got under the satnd. My paranoia is only exceeded by the fear of my wife if I screw up her oak floors :)

sounds good to me Erwin, that was the only thing i would worry about, but, you already thought of that :)
