Hello all, thought I'd share some new pics. I feed my Rhinopias live damsels. Generally I keep them in a net and then the rino takes the damsel out of the net. The damsel got away from me, those damsels are quick. So as the Rhino hopped towards him I grabbed my camera to get some pics. I missed the lunge of the Rhino by a half a second. It's amazing to see the concentration of the Rhino staring the damsel down. The damsel looks like he's about to crap his pants...... Then the aftermath. The big yawn after a good meal and then a look of being a proud mean s.o.b. Just thought I would share. Regards, Tim

fish

WHy not feed it goldfish? Not the pretty striped damsel.......(I'm not a treehuggernor ever want to be!) but I thought that damsel was neat but it was sad to see it get mulched..................................

Goldfish and other freshwater fish contain fats that saltwater fish cannot digest. You should never feed saltwater fish freshwater fish, unless your initiating a new fish to eat. The fats build up in the liver and will cause their untimely demise. After seeing necropsies of lionfish kept in captivity for a few years, their livers were clogged with this fat. All these lions were fed freshwater fare. Whereas those lions who were not fed freshwater fare showed far less if any buildup. Believe me I would rather pay for a 10/c goldfish than the far more expensive damsel. This is one a very few fish in 15 years I could not get to eat frozen food. I hate feeding live food. 99% of the time its wasteful, unnecessary, and puts your fish at risk. Regards, Tim

Just picking up on that and got a question.
What about mollies that you converted to saltwater? is it the same thing?

Very cool fish BTW

I have asked that question myself many times. Though I have no proof, I think they are similar in body chemistry as other freshwater fish. I only feed the Rhino about twice a week. Thankfully I live right on the bay and ocean. So when spring comes I will collect feeders without having to pay for them. Regards, Tim

Those are awsome pictures! I could just see that damsel swearing when he saw that thing moving toward him! Thanks for sharing.

have u tryed glass shrimp/ghost shrimp they are dead cheap
ive seen my lfs get those leafy scorpians in its pretty cool how they change colour every 2 weeks he had gotten his ones to eat frozen whitebait(silver side) i think u guys call it
i have also asked the molly question my self

mayeb it would be worth breeding damsels or chromis cheaper in the long run and u could sell extras off

He's not into the ghost shrimp either, though I've only tried a couple of times. I'll be collecting live food from the local bays once the weather turns a bit nicer. I've starved him for almost ten days straight and tried to feed him silversides to no avail. I feed him about 2 times a week. Thanks for all your kind words!!! Regards, Tim
