My two blue tangs were chasing each other and knocked my Maxima clam down. It laid in a dark area for about 2 days upside down. I took time to retrieve it last night. It looked really pale. I am concerned if it will live or not? It opens and closes and extends it mantles but the color is not like before. The color is really pale. :(

Hi Ed,
It should be fine. It just got a little bleached from lack of light. I had a coral grow across one of my clams and it turned very white. It has since recovered without any problems.

HTH,
Kevin

I'm sure it would be doing much better if you "took time to retrieve it” two days ago.

Gordo,
You are right. If you noticed how my rock is ledges? I bought a dowell and slowley worked it out towards the front. It was a chore. You are right I should have gotten him out imediately. The hardware stores were closed when I saw it. Things I can do in the future to prevent this are buy a pair of tongs, have a piece of dowel now for such a thing. I put a hook on the end of piece of dowel to grab stuff. I thought about tongs but they were too thick. I learned a Lesson. I did not want to disturb other occupants in my tank. I was lucky I did not do more damage.

Ed, thats great you got the clam out. I think these clams are forgiving in that if something like what you had happens and is caught within a day or so, they will come back fine.

Me, I use a soup spoon to retrieve things that fall down and go bump.

Thanks Sue, I appreciate your opinion very much, I appreciate all of your help from all of you. The positive thinking does wonders..

my poor Maxima has fallen off the rock work so many times I lost count. It's always returned back to it's full glory. I've even fresh water dipped it a few times and it still is alive :) they are pretty hardy things. mojoreef had one fall out and roll down his driveway and it's still alive.

yes Barry, Thanks...He is starting to color up again. I think I got lucky. I was sweating bullits. He looks confortable sitting on my rock again.

mike was transporting some clams and i think he stepped out of his truck with the container and it slipped. the container spilled and a clam or two went rolling down the driveway.

mojoreef- how did the story go?

Thats incredible about the clam rolling down the driveway. That or Mike was bowling. How bout the derasa clam that was dropped and glued back together?? Belongs to Jim Norris. He literally picked up the pieces and parts of the clam and super glued them back together. The clam is fine to this day and is named Scar.
