I am cross posting this from a killifish list... Apologies for not getting permission from the author to David, hope you don't mind This guy definitely knows what he is talking about, he's a pro:

strength) try looking for a RANCO temperature controller on EBay. You can
get them for as little as $20 and will run up to 16 amps at 120 volt.
I just bought several for an experiment for work and brand new they're $60
at Grainger.com. These and the ones on EBay usually don't have their high
voltage cords but a cheap $5 outdoor extension cord cut in half is easily
wired in as the supply and controlled outlet.
They are very easy to set, highly accurate and have variable set points.
This allows you turn them on at 73F and turn off at 76F for example so your
heaters aren't clicking on and off. The set points can be as far as 30
degrees apart and you can toggle between F and C.
