BTW is feeding once a day too much? Should I maybe cut back util this algae is under control?

Depends. What size tank do you have AND more importantly what you are feeding them. You want food that is not high in phosphates as this could be a nutrient source for the algae..Algae needs light and food to grow. To one or more away you kill the source, you kill the algae.

for example, I feed my fish 2 times a day during the week, and 4 times a day on the weekend. But I have 12 fish in my 375g tank. so all relative in the end.
