Hey rlugo I live in Youngstown as well, Poland to be exact im just starting up my 35gal Hex saltwater tank. New to hobby and still learning, my Dry Rock from BRS just showed up at my door. Ill be adding the Rock tonight, i have a Marineland Emperor 280 Bio-wheel whith a Marineland 200w Stealth Heater, Nano Powerhead. I plan on buying a Octopus HOB Skimmer. Wish me luck 0_o

Welcome again, see you were on 2 years ago briefly. Unless you are using the Emperior 280 for flow, you realy do not need a mechanical filter with your live rock. Unless you are going to change it out every day or two, it will become a nitrate factory. Spend the money on a rodi unit if you do not have one already. If you already do have a rodi unit, spend the extra money on the best skimmer you can afford. and remember TAKE YOUR TIME!!! If you are just putting in your LR, it will take 4-6 weeks before your cycle is complete and before you can start adding inhabitants. What you decide to keep will be greatly dependent upon your lighting. Also avoid all the snake oils out there, purple up ect. Do water changes weekly and that will be all you need for a start up in a small system. Good Luck

Im doing only Fish with live rock, but the rock is not live yet, i got 40lbs of Dry Eco Rock from BRS. I have 20lbs of Live Sand and 15lbs of Dead sand in the tank already. So the Emperor 280 is a bad idea ? The next thing i am buying is the protein skimmer I will have it before the 4-6 cycle is complete or before i add any fish. I am in no hurry to get fish i just want to get my aquascaping done im sick of looking at a bare tank lol. The tank has had water/sand for about 10days now with my nano and Emperor running. I am limited to a HOB Skimmer and only have 7inch clearance from tank to wall in the back. I was gonna go with one of the Octopus HOB Skimmers. Tonight im gonna get the Dry Rock all rinsed and ready to go into the tank tommorrow. At this point i only have tap water to use no RODI yet. Ill be rinsing the dry rock and it will sit over night because i wont have enough time to place the rock tonight. Any other info would be appreciated. Thanks
