i am trying to find a new pump to run my closed loop..i have a Mag12 on it now..it is very loud!!! it will be an external pump, but i need a quiet one..someone suggested a Dolphin pump..any suggestions..i don't want to spend too much on it:oops: ;)

Dolphin ampmaster 3000 is the way to go!!
they are quieter than a pcx 30 that only runs 900 gph..

Matt

the pump is for my closed loop..i have 3/4" connectors..i will have to cut some of the connectors off and make some adjustments for it to fit..the main pipes are like 1-1/2"..i had to adapt them down to fit the mag pump..i have heard of those pumps before, but none of those seem to push enough gph..i need at least double what i have now(1000-1200gph)

you have to match the hole size comming from the tank to the pump inlet size. so you will be limited on pump choice depending on the feed hole size.

if your feed hole on the tank is 1 1/2" i would use one of these pumps

the " dart" has the flow you need but the feed port is 2" so i dont think you can use it.

Get a sequence Barracuda, Its 1 1/2 outlet and inlet, Quiet and very little heat transfer. Plus they adjustable on flow because of the low speed motors. I neve have been disappointed with thier preformance.

the Dart and the Snapper seem to be the flow range i need(and price range:))...do you know the noise level on those Bob???

They are low, I have never measured except with my ear. Mine sit in my LR, So it could heard. I changed out a Pan world for my Barracuda and went from annoying whine to Silence. So to me they can not be beat.

the barracuda has a little too much flow(i think)..i would have to guess that since the other ones are the same brand and less flow, that they are quiet as well....Does anyone else have a Sequence Dart or Snapper???? how are they with noise??

The Dolphin ampmaster is a very quiet pump and is comparable to the sequence, they are both good pumps that run low rpm and low noise. Since Dolphin upgraded their seals I'll start recommending them again. However, for a local company, Horizon has very good pumps, a 2 year unconditional warranty and they are quiet as well. Reef Mystique, Indoor Reef and myself all use and stock their pumps. Their pumps start at 3500 gph.

I have owned them all at one point or another Ron, They all use low rpm Motors, So quiet is accross the board. They are also adjustable with a ball or gate valve, to restrictr flow. Its one the main points of the pumps. If your looking at using a dart or snapper then your going to have to increase the size of your water inlet to 2 inch. you can restric the outlet on these but not the inlet.

i am thinking i am going to need to build a whole new Closed Loop..i don't think the existing pipes are big enough..i may just go with a 2" inlet and a 1-1/2" outlet

how much for a Dolphin Dual performance 3200/2700????

we have the same size tank Ron, Iam going to run the Barracuda for my CL, Why I had Sam drill the 1.5 in. In accordance with Calfo design parameters, I want 400 GPH per outlet, So thats why Iam going with Barracuda. As for the Dolphin, It depends there are 2 types of that model available, I would have to know which you would want. I have both available.

i am going to go with 4 outlets on this closed loop..i should get around 750gph from each outlet..i may actually put a tee of some sort on the middle two outlets to point the flow in opposite directions

I have owned them all at one point or another Ron, They all use low rpm Motors, So quiet is across the board. They are also adjustable with a ball or gate valve, to restrict flow. Its one the main points of the pumps. You can run the darts at 1½", thats what I have mine at. I called MDM before I bought the pump to make sure I could run a 1½" inlet. The Darts aren't very loud at all. They even come with a 2" to 1½" adapter.
