Need some help the weekend of October 1st and 2nd

Hey all,

We are taking the plunge. We just bought a glass 210 gal 72" x 24" x 30" tank with all the accessories including oak stand and canopy (upgrading our current 70 gal) and now we need help to go get it. We are looking at doing this the weekend of October 1st/2nd. We would prefer Sat the 1st but will work with what the people who offer to help can do. We will need 2-3 people and maybe an additional truck to ours to make it in one trip. Maybe a U-Haul is in order??? It is down in Shelton so it will probably be a good portion of the day with the travel time. We are hoping for some experienced help in moving tanks this size. There is no livestock or water to worry about. It's just the shear weight and size of everything that concerns us. It will be moved to our garage for storage for now so we can work on it to get it ready and the house ready for it.

No. We are changing out the sump tank this week ourselves. This help is need for a new 210 gal tank, stand, canopy, 2 sumps, pumps and plumbing that we just bought for an upgrade in a few months.

Kinda a tough trip..but I just had to rally to get help myself..and that wasnt an easy task.

I have a truck and 2 furniture dollies.....should you find your stuck without enough help,let me know, for distance reasons, I hope you find adequate muscle...LOL but more than likely push come to shove I can help

A couple of things for everyone reading...

1) Again I see I have the dates wrong . It is the weekend of October 2nd or 3rd (preferring the 2nd).

2) We will be providing lunch and or dinner (something a little better than the typical pizza ) for anyone who helps as well as paying for your gas if you help with an additional truck.

How long is the bed on your truck? If you have a 6.5' bed put the tank in there and pad it front, back and bottom with shipping blankets. Put enough padding on the front and back so that when you close the tailgate the tank is snug. Put the rest of the stuff in a 6 X 12 U-Haul trailer and you're good to go. That's what I did when I bought a tank and steel stand from a guy in Bend. The weight in the back of the truck really calmed that trailer down while towing.

If you get stuck I might be able to help but that's only if the wife doesn't plan some stuff for that weekend. I've got a long bed, hitch, and shipping pads. Also, you're going to want at least 6 guys to lift that tank. I'm betting a tank that size will be near 400lbs.

Yep. We figured it is around 400 pounds as a 180 is 340 pounds according to a chart online. I would love if 6 guys could be there (including myself). Yes we do have a 6.5 foot bed dodge truck and the U-Haul trailer idea is a good one if we don't just get a second truck. Thanks for the shipping blankets idea as well. I will have to see if we can round some up. See, thats why I would like someone with experience with moving this kind of stuff around when we do this. I will let you know if we come up short on guys Mike.

Now that I think about it I have a buddy with an enclosed trailer we might be able to use. I will have to check that out.

i have the exact same tank and it took me and one other guy to take it off the stand and just me to stand it up vertical and move it my self with a appliance dolly. this tank is really not that heavy

Sorry Justin. Not going to try it. The current owner of the tank says it weighed a ton and we will need several people like he did when he brought it in. His back is bad so he will not be able to help either. There is no way to use an appliance dolly beyond his front door as he has stairs off his porch and a really steep gravel driveway. Besides I would not be comfortable tipping a tank of this size up on a dolly like that anyway and risking stressing the seams, scratches and/or breakage. Just my opinion.

How do you suppose to get 6 guys on a tank and walk it down the stairs? Maybe 2 can get side by side but not 3.

You seemed to be a sizable fellow when i met you. Even if it does weigh 400lbs which i doubt, thats manageable by 2 guys. I just dont see how 6 can fit on it to be honest

I know. That's why we are only asking for 2 or 3 to help. Any more would only be tripping over each other trying to carry it. I am sure I can dead lift and walk with 200 lbs for a short distance but with some obstacles and uneven sloped ground I would rather be safe than sorry with an expensive tank.

It does weight that much. You are just gonna have to trust me on that one .

It may not chop your fingers off, but when you are carrying your share of the load with just your fingers vs. a good hand hold on the side, the difference is huge.
I had to move my Glasscages 240 with 3 others. We could not have done it, without them.

I've had a suction cup come loose before. I trust my grip, I don't trut the seal on those. I carry glass and giant doors for a living. Not that the sups don't work. But there's a reason guys generally use them for sheet glass but don't for windows.
