Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum

Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

Mike,
I like it here. The people are friendly. The advice is usually on the money. The only thing I do not see yet is a Library for things like the elements in Saltwater.

I think the site is doing well. Now if Mike would quit posting pics of his crappy tank, my wife would get off my back about the expense of this "little" hobby of mine....

Chuck/Mike, what exactly is "Reef Frontiers"? You say it's not an official arm of PSAS, but is independent. Is it an incorporated, for profit venture?

PSAS Officers, Reef Frontiers Staff,
I guess there needs to be clarification on how PSAS and Reef Frontiers work together or as seperate entities. The web site changed names from PSAS to reef frontiers earlier this or last year. As PSAS everyone used the site for reef info and club information. Even Chuck pointed out the election info on the homepage of now reef frontiers. There is a PSAS forum thread in the site. Maybe this is where club buisness should be posted. In any event, there hasn't been a lot of info concerning the situation.
As to PSAS yearly dues. Are these monies used to run PSAS club activities and not Reef Frontiers website? Are "Contributing Member" monies only used for Reef Frontiers Website and not for PSAS club activities?Just a need some info.
Thanks, Scott

Ok let me see if I can clarify it a bit. The PSAS and Reef Frontiers are completely two seperate things. Chuck and I are Reef Frontiers. As we are also members of the club, we advertise and post for the club whenever asked. We also keep the club forum hosted on the board along with a few other simular clubs. All club membership money, raffle money and anything else like that is the clubs and has nothing to do with Reef frontiers. Even contests run by the board (such as the new tank raffle ) went to the club in total. To be honest with you all the money that Reef Frontiers has recieved from sponcership has also gone to the PSAS club so that the events you all attended could take place. So I guess you really cant call us a for profit biz...or at least not a very smart one, lol. After the contest prizes, advertizing costs and so on thier is not really alot of money anyway. My and CHucks hope was to create a community where folks could come and learn and have some fun at the same time.

any hope that helps a bit.

Mike

Oh on the contributing members for RF that money would go towards helping the board with expences. Also just because I think a few folks maybe wondering, no money has, no will ever come from PSAS to Reef Frontiers, I wouldnt want folks to wonder about that.

take care

Mike

Thanks Mike,
All I think folks want to know is how club info and buisness will be handled. Is Reef Frontiers the place to go for PSAS club information? "IE" Events, Speakers, Gatherings, Monthly Meetings,Elections. Or is PSAS going to use some other forum, site, mailings to get club info to the membership?
Both PSAS and Reef Frontiers are great sources of reef info. Thanks to all who give their valuable time and $ to making them a big success!

just found this thread... so psas jump started reef frontiers yet they really don't have a long term stake in the site? this smells fishy, although i truly believe mike and chuck have good intentions.

to me it sounds like their has been a split somewhere and no one is talking about it.

but i agree with jazznreef on this

so... when you are a contributing member (using paypal from the home page), what exactly are you contributing towards?? there's no reference to psas on the donation form. very interesting topic this could turn into...

Not fishy just a couple of smart business men. Maybe some legal CYA. I think no matter what the reason behind it is we should all be greatfull. Without the generosity of everyone on this site this hobby would be almost impossible.

i totally agree with you don. i'm just fascinated by how things are developing. no harm done thinking things through. i had always thought of reef frontiers as psas' site. that not being the case there are implications on various things. i just enjoy thinking about all those details. no harm no foul though. it's still a great resource that i will continue to use. i'll just have to picture my support a little differently.

I'd like to be able to post larger sized pictures and maybe more room for each to post pictures to. Other than that this is a great site. Friendly, you can have a discussion or debate and learn not just be called names and insulted like a good number of other sites..

I recall when reef frontiers was announced at a PSAS mtg (Jon Warner mtg??) the voiced goal was to create a place that not only provided quality information and fun but ultimately can sponsor large events such as reefcentral. If you notice, reefcentral also has several clubs that use it to communicate club specific events ect..

I interpreted the reef frontiers launch as a step working toward the goal of growing and therefore impacting the reef keeping and reefs themselves in a possitive way.

I have noticed more content, more members and new moderators from out of state added. The majority of the patrons still appear to be greater WA based therfore PSAS is spoken of more often.

I guess since reef frontiers was began by PSAS members then the PSAS board decides where funding is used ect. If contributors would like to know the specifics then I would think it fair to provide those. I have complete confidence in all members and respect them in MANY ways. Lets help them through this transitional phase to bigger, better!

BTW: The site is awesome. I rarely venture to other larger forumns because there just simply isn't a need to.

Great job guys and gals!!

Not really, they truely do go hand in hand. Without the board I dont think PSAS would grow and without growth it would slowly die.
On the other hand without PSAS most of these people would never actually meet each other face to face. Without this the friendships would fade or never truely exist.

A "FAQ" section would greatly help... A "HOW TO" section is also helpful. And also a section where you put past threads of "LETS TALK ABOUT"

Purpose is for people not to do a search anymore when the topic or thread has been long updated... but still very usefull for newbies and new members.
