I would have to get my tank drilled for a sooner though don't I???? And if that's the case I don't want to go that route because my tank is glass and it is 5/8 thick and i really don't want to run the risk of breaking it.

no, there are tons of HOB skimmers. but 5/8 should be fine as many people drill thier glass tanks. to keep it simple though you can go with a couple of cheap HOB skimmers or one good one. another pro is a skimmer will help gas exchange greatly!
