Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum

Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

I need 3-4 guys. Think 4x4 rimless cube and taking apart a large stand. And various other "stuff". It's an offer I couldn't resist and am doing it. I have to pick it up in Graham and unload in Monroe. I'm gonna rent a flat bed for everything. It would be great to get a couple guys to help in Graham and a couple to help in monroe. I may only need one or two in Monroe. I'm looking to do it Sunday. It's time sensitive so this weekend is what I need people for.

As in tomorrow, Fathers Day? That might be a tough one but if anyone will do it, it's a reefer that will. I know the tank you are getting. It's quite large. We were there at the 10pm calling of the leak springing, water all over the floor, draining it and moving livestock. The stand will need to be disassembled to get it out of the house so be prepared with some tools. What time are you thinking? I may be able to break free to give a hand at the Graham end depending on my day.

Congrats on the new acquisition.

No lol I meant next Sunday at noon would be a good time to do it. Really I just confirmed it this afternoon so I'm working hard at nailing this down. Any help would be appreciated.

In that case as far as I know I'm in. let me know more details as it gets closer.

Yeah, thought of buying that one too ( actualy had the pm all wrote out right after he posted for sale, and then just closed out the screen). too much on my plate already. gonna run dual 4x2x2 side by side and do a garage build for equiptment. one tank for corals and the other not so reef safe fish...and some coral

he's 30min from me, and I don't get off work till 230. but can be there at 3pm if thats what time it goes down.

are you gonna take the tank in one piece, or take it apart and reseal it? sounds like a great stand too!

all assuming we are talking about the same tank of course. lol

It's the same tank lol. Ya sounds like your hands are full. I will either make it a Temperate tidal pool touch tank or a crazy tropical nem tank. My mind is set on the tidal touch tank though. I think that would be cool as all get out.

OK Ok lol I got you some pics. Sorry they are all cellphone pics but it shows you a little bit of what's going on

I'm so stoked that the tank is looking this good already :) Glad everything made it there and is spreading already :D Let me know if you want bigger specimens when you upgrade and I'll collect them for you.

Very cool. I was just down in Portland at Saltwater Fantaseas (the show that was recently hit by vandals) and they have set up a coldwater system display in their store. They said the tanks require at least 1" thick acrylic to combat condensation from the cold water. Are you seeing any issues with this? Are you considering chilling the water further? Following along to see the progress. Thanks for posting.
My business partner and I did all the foam rock work in that tank and got them all the livestock as well. It was pretty cool that they decided to put it right up front there. I'm going to take them down some larger fish in the next couple weeks.

Tidal touch tank or go home ;) That'd be the most killer top down viewable tank EVER!

Stu you give great advice. I hope I'm hitting my marks on this build. Let me know if I'm straying. I don't mind being the test monkey

You are pretty spot on so far, you've addressed all the know things that may occur. If you keep with the tidal animals, running your tank nearer to 60 should be no problem. Just make sure and get a quality chiller hooked into that big tank before it gets too hot down the road. I had a nice big smelly soupy mess in highschool with a coldwater tank that was ran on a DIY'd mini fridge chiller that couldn't handle the temps, not fun.:dizzy:

The 4' X 4' tank you got for such a good deal on needs A LOT of work. You should cut the tank apart on site and load the panels in the truck. The whole tank needs to be broke down and reassembled!! I was also there at the BLOW OUT party. The stand is crap!!!! you will need to cut it appart to get it out the door. That being said you may be able to use some of the material to rebuild it. But IMO you would be smart to start from scratch.
There are a few reasons that tank failed, one of them was the construction of the stand.
I can also help next Sunday. I have all the tools you will need to get every thing loaded into a pickup truck. I will take about 2-3 hours.
What time are you figuring on???

Ok sounds like a big project but I'm still stoked. I have a framer buddy showing up to redesign the tank stand. I don't know anything about building a tank and will start a new thread on this project. Because making a tank is a whole different ball game for me. But I can customize this build to a tidal pool tank still. And peppie sounds like I will need your expertise on this project. And tools:) I don't know what I'll need. But I will be researching it for sure. Knowledge is key. Noon sounds like the time that will work.

Shot you a PM on the tank reconstruction info. I have got you covered on the tools to break down the stand.

Well no need for live rock really because the biological process is so inefficient in Coldwater. And I. Like the look of the smooth rock studded with nems. And the biggest reason price. I gotine free on the side of the road! I might use some lace rock or dead rock as an experiment . But for the new tank I want to diy foam rocks and that won't be boring lol
