New Corals from Shark Reef In!

Well there was an Ag Hold on Eric's coral shipment at the airport last night so I didn't get to pick them up until this morning.

I did a 30 min. Flatworm Exit dip and a 7 min. Lugol's & Reef Dip.

Here's a pic of some of the crabs. I found at least one crab in each acropora colony and some had two:

I also found a couple of other hitch-hikers. One is what appears to be a serpent star and the other is some sort of fish. And you know you have it bad when you see a tiny finned creature go down your drain, and you remove the sink drain loop to rescue the fish. Unfortunately it was exposed to varying water temps., salinity, and I could not acclimate it. I am assuming it will not make it. For now it is in the QT with the corals. Can't get a pic of either of them. The fish has sort of a mud skipper form to it. I hope it makes it!!

Man, those are some NICE corals!! I commend your QT & proper treatment prior to introducing them to the main tank...hindsight and all I wish I would have done this...I now have one soft coral that has survived...all SPS dead.

Looking good Jonathan!!! Sorry about the critters and the delay last night, I guess that's what you get when they come straight from the islands. Glad to see they are doing well. Thanks for the post and the business!!! I will have to use that dip method on the sps from now on. So thanks for the lesson. I guess my triggers will have more to eat if you bring them in.

For everyone else I did get a few more sps colonies in along with about 200 other great new corals which are mostly LPS and Softies.

It's all going well and Sherman is on his way to get his. The QT method is really the result of reading so many horror stories. I do not keep them in there for long though because it is hard to maintain water quality and Ca & alk in this small tank. I really want a giant frag tank but that will have to wait until I can figure out how to do it.

Hi Eric, just wanted to say thanks for getting the corals in for us. They are all very nice sizes and the color on them is just fantastic. Anyone wanting some really nice stuff should waste no time heading over to your store!

Well I traded in one of the dups I got on that last shipment of acros and got a sweet yellow acro colony. I got 3 nice frags together for Sherman and we spent much of the evening critiqueing import beers and mounting corals in my tank.

Sherman brought over a nice frag of the purple acro and the X-Mas tree rock as his crabs were munching on the worms!

Good music, good beers, lots of corals, 35" of water, water on the floor, the hum of pumps, brite lights, salmon pate, and plenty of trash talk to go around...it just doesn't get any better!!

I brought a bunch of crabs over to the Shark Reef and fed them to the triggers. Out of about 15 I dumped in, I only saw one make it to the sand.

Nah, it's not that big, only about 1/2 the size of your kitchen 'Fridge.

wow, that is huge! Anyone know if the worms will migrate to other rocks, or if they are coral specific?

The do tend to burrow into brain corals.....and they aren't too prolific under water either........very spotty across a reef, and not in dense numbers.
