New MH bulb, what should I get?

Hi Everybody,

A friend of mine is coming to the States soon and he said he'd pick me up a 250w MH. What do you suggest I get. I do want a double ended bulb. I'm thinking in the 20K region. My tank is only a 20g but I'm slowly stocking it with SPS frags. I currently run a 150w DE 18 000K bulb.

Your thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

XM 250watt SE 10K bulb is a very good choice, really brings out the color in corals.

I know I know. Do you think I get anytime? I also don't always have access to a camera either. Moving servers soon, then I will redo the site and add all the pic's and updates.

Thanks for the suggestion Waterdogs. I'm really keen on a XM bulb.

Come on guys... What do you recommend? What are your favourites? What do you suggest? Not everyday I get to pick out a decent aquarium bulb for my tank... although my friend has agreed to put me in his suitcase

do you supplement with actinics or just planning a pure 250de bulb.

If you are supplementing, then the aqualine bushke 10k is nice. It is a bit yellow on its own. I haven't tried the 14k or the 20k, they may be more white/blue. Wish I could help more, I am on my first set of bulbs.

I do supplement my halide at the moment, got 80w of blue NO flourscents. We can get the AB bulbs here in South Africa, but I'm not prepared to sell my liver for one of them just yet:>

I would like to try the XM bulbs? Any comments? What would you suggest 10K or 20K DE 250w?

The other reason for wanting to go 250w is that I should hopefully setting up my 'big' tank (65g) soon.

the phoenix 14k is supposed to be a little less blue then the 20k and personally I dont like the 20k's I have an XM 10k and like it but will probably get a 14k next time. They are supposed to have a single ended version coming out soon.

Early reports...have suggested that XM 15k bulbs will be out in limited quantities starting the 2nd-3rd week of February (just the 175 watters), and end of February-early March for the 250s and 400s.

This is if all tests...have gone well.

It may be a promising bulb.....but who knows

Mmmmm, that sounds interesting... will get hold of XM and see if they can make a plan for me. 15000K, will probably have the best of both worlds, 20K colour & 10K PAR

I personally think XM makes a great bulb. I also heard a rumor that they are releasing a 15K bulb soon; 175W first then a bit late they are bringing out the 250W... If you dont want to be one of the first with that, go with the 10K XM.
