New tank done! - added pictures

Well, we finally got the new tank set up. It's the one I got from cookie to replace the nicely scratched up one, thanks to my kid. We are all done except I want to remove the two pieces of rock on the bottom and replace with more branch rock. I like the branch on the bottom and figi on top. Scott did a great job adding a sump and overflow. Here are the pictures:

Top of the tank showing the overflow plumbing:

I'm crazy about the bare bottom. Tomorrow have to rearrange the powerheads to keep the bottom clear.

Thanks everyone!

If the picture is in the gallery have to use the Img tag. Click on post reply, hit the button that says IMG and then paste the address in the window that pops up like this....

You might be able to edit your post and put
url] and at the end put
at the end. There should be no spaces after [*img] or before [*/img]. Don't put the * in there though.

PS...congrats!!! It looks like a nice setup.

Colleen,
my tank never looked like that before I sold it to you. Now I want it back. :) How is the bigger tank coming along?

Erwin

Hey Charlie

You know what? The skimmer doesn't seem to be working as hard as it used to. The first night it was set up Scott had to get up at 2am and go check it (after he tried to make me do it at 2am) as we were expecting a lot of foam for a couple days. That's what it usually does when first setting up or a big water change. But the skimmer really isn't producing much and the water is so clear. I think it's because of the sock. I have washed it once already and rinsed it out besides. The skimmer is a Remora so I know it knows what its doing!

Thanks!!

Hey Erwin! We love it!! The corals are still not as happy as before, but I dont blame them. ALl the back and forth can't be good. I'm hoping they will perk up more this weekend.

Erwin.... THe bigger tank? It's coming along just like before.... ie; still in the works... Scott is redoing something. I think he liked practicing on mine before he turns loose on his own!

Collen,
I see that you also put in Karan's old sump. It looks great in there, nice job. Is that a UV on the far left of the picture? I think my tank will be completed in the next week or so. I still trying to convince Pat to let me go BB, but she likes the look of sand. Your aquascaping looks great. What's with the plastic tie on the left coral? Is that some new tank husbrandy I don't know about? ;)

Erwin

Very nice setup... I want to know more about the overflow and the durso type of plumbing inside it.

Can you take a closer pic? and explain what it is? is it a DIY? is it noisy?

OH no, you beat me Colleen! It looks great by the way, though being that this is a family forum, showing your Bare Bottom may may not be appropriate. Tell Scott he has to wait untill I'm done or I'm going back to a goldfish bowl.

Well, keep us posted... Also, where are the lights? Can we see of picture of those too?

Looking good :D

Well thanks everyone! Here are a couple more pictures. You know what is the coolest with this set up is NOTHING is new. Everything I purchased was from someone here or at Reef Central. THe sqwd, sterilizer and light from Reef Central and the sump and tank setup from Reef Frontiers! It was great fun looking for all the bargains.

Karen's sump worked perfectly under the stand. Thanks Karen!!

Erwin that is a sterilizer on the left side. John convinced me to keep one running when I had ich sometime back. Ok the tank that is. Everything fits well under and there is still room left. I LOVE the bare bottom as it makes it look clean and tidy! Going to redo the hex tank next and make it BB.

Erik there are no bare bottoms in this house when we are working on tanks. Topless perhaps, can't stand that water running down my arms so why bother with a shirt?

Cesar - the overflow is a Lifereef. I ordered the slimline with a built in silencer. You can check it out at Lifereef.com. The overflow is quiet, you just hear the water in the sump but Scott has a plan for that. He's quite handy!

Lights - got an incredible deal on a T5 Tek Light from someone at Reef Central and have them installed in the canopy. Amazing lights. Thanks Erwin once I saw yours I new I needed those too. It has four bulbs, two white somethings and two blue somethings... If you can't tell I'm not the light expert. I tried reading the big lighting thread but I didn't make it through...

Anymore questions give us a holler!

I was a little worried that you wouldn't be able to use those eye bolts I put in the canopy. Glad you got the same ones that I had in it. Since the back of the canopy is pretty open do you plan to use a cloth cover on the back to get rid of the light "bleed"? It always put a halo effect when I had my lights installed. BTW, how does Scott plan to silence the water noise?

Erwin

Looking real good Collen. Its a good thing your son scratched up that old tank, lol look at the result

Keep that quiet would ya! He's still paying money to fix the old one. Boy did he get a work out with all this and whenever he whined, I asked why are we doing this to start with. He soon shut up and just kept busy!
