Hey all. Just started a BC14 a little over a week ago and it is progressing nicely. Cycle is complete (or close), diatoms everywhere, ready for a clean up crew.

The guy below came on some rock of mine. Is this aiptasia?

Thanks for any help! I'm sure I'll be posting many more questions over the next few months.

That's a mojano anemone and if your not careful they will overtake your tank. Do yourself a favor and remove it quickly.

Ah, definitely matches the pictures of majano anemones I found. Thanks for the info! Hopefully it is gone and won't come back.

I found this on another site, maybe a solution.

"I had them in my nano. I had to remove all the rock from that tank and give it a good flushing with clean SW and in the process I discovered that if the rock is left out of the water for 10 minutes or so, the anemones will release their foot from the rock and you can pop them right off with your fingernail. That's not going to work for rocks with corals on them or if you have to take your tank apart but it came in useful in my case."

I can't tell you how many times I have tried Joe's Juice and thought I had killed off a pest anemone only for it to come back a week or two later.

Where's there's one, there's more. I would immediately QT that rock and go from there. It was sort of a joke about boiling the rock on my stove (I know, I didn't put a smiley next to it!) but the fact is, pest anemones are hell. If you don't want them all over the place, stinging corals etc., drastic action is neccessary.

Hi Phong. I just read this, and like the others have said, please act now.

IMO, they are worst than aptasia, since no shrimp that I know of will eat them (where as some Lysmata sp. shrimp will eat aptasia).

You can break up and chisel that rock up, or if you want to preserve the shape of the rock, just 'boil' it up, and let it recure (elsewhere if you want).

I sent you a reply to your PM.

Best,
Ilham
