Hey everyone. I've lived in the Seattle area my whole life but just getting into SW aquariums now. I still haven't taken the plunge and picked up any equipment just yet (wife gave birth to twins 6 days ago) but I'm planning on starting up something <30g in the next few months.

I've been mostly reading the NR forums and trying to drink from the firehose of information about reefkeeping.

It's great to find a forum that is more Washington-specific (especially the classifieds :)) so I can get some help if I need it.

Just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself and hope I will be meeting some of you at a future PSAS meetup in the next few months

Asks lots of questions and think about all your equipment before you buy anything, even the tank stand, as a lot of people have to custom make them to hold a good protein skimmer (if you're even going to do a sump tank.)

Anyway, lots of helpful people here, so ask away.

Welcome to reef frontiers!

Lot's of smart people here

Also, check out the selling portion of RF for great deals from people getting out of hobby or upgrading... welcome to RF and PSAS

A couple reference books are a great help. I've been using the Conscientious Aquarist (that kirk recommended above) and also a coral reference book called

Aquarium Corals : Selection, Husbandry, and Natural History by Eric Borneman

which I like. It gives a good overview of the different types of corals. I use this book the most for basic coral research (before I delve into the interweb.)

Here's a link discussing reference books I started awhile ago if you're interested in books. You might want to keep an eye out for used books on ebay or posted in the for sale forums here, they all carry a pretty hefty price tag

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I'll definitely pick up some of those books to add to the reading list. I hope to get a tank wet by June or July (maybe babies will sleep more by then) if I can find a good deal in the classifieds.
