I'm such a geek - I love the microscopic world. Well - I was told today about this mesoscope, and had to check it out. Have you guys seen this thing? It was at IMAC.

Here are a couple of links:

Check out the Gallery - Ogles Mesoscope

and this site has some cool pics - Oglevision. You can click on the headings "Skeleton and Polyp Detail", "Coral Commensals and Parasites", and "Zooxanthellae".

As if there weren't enough gadgets out there.....now I have another on my tank's "want list".

Nikki I have searched and searched and searched for one in the states but could only find them oversees.. Pretty spendy but definately something I will save for.

That looks like way to much fun!!! It is a little pricey tho. I wonder if the best thing to do would be to have your local club chip in and buy this thing! That way it wouldn't be $500 out of your own pocket, everybody would have a piece of it, and a chance to use it.
Just a thought!!

I'll let you spend the money to buy one first, and "borrow" it a couple of times to see if its something I "need".

:D

LOL, Nick!!! and I'm sure you want me to buy it, right around the time we come out to your place for a visit. That way your tank would be the first tank I try it out on. My forgetful brain would end up leaving it there, too! Of course, I would remember I left it there 3 hours into the drive home. :D

Hmm Camera Attachment :D I wonder how possible that would be...

That would make it much more interesting..

Edit:

After looking at some of those Shots My Fuji S7000 can get down to about that range... It is supposed to be the best macro camera out there... With a focal range of 1cm in Super Macro mode and like 5cm in normal Macro

Well, I have this device and can say it's very useful especially for exploring SPS. Taking pictures with it isn't very easy. You really need a simple "point & shoot" camera with very small lense that can be pushed into the mesoscope's eyepiece. I used the cheapest camera I found - Mustek's gSm@rt LCD3 (fixed focus, no flash, no programs) ;) Once camera is attached the focus must be set using the LCD

Below are some shots I took for testing purpose. Must say that those quality is far from that one can see live.

Stylopora pistillata, distance 60 cm.

Seriatopora hystrix, distance 50 cm.

Clavularia viridis, distance 30 cm.

Feather dusters on Porites rock, distance 10 cm.

Just for comparision following picture from the same rock taken with Sony F828 with a macro lense.

Thanks for posting your experience, Albert! Definate difference between the 2 feather duster pics.

It would be cool to watch this stuff live. Hopefully, the price will eventually come down.

Mesoscope

I thought I would post this image to try and show a Mesoscope image for comparison, this picture was taken using a C-Mount camera and prototype adapter. The xmas tree worm was at approximately 40cm, but as mentioned a live image is far more interesting.

Little Things - Welcome to Reef Frontiers!!!

Amazing image! I can picture myself using this device, and wondering if the little things I'm looking at are parasitic or beneficial. Hopefully, I'll eventually have that problem! This is definately going on my list of things I'd like for the tank.

I have Anthonys, kinda neat but you really have to have the subject with in a foot of the glass or you cant see it. Not sure I would put out that kind of money on it.

The Mesoscope will focus between 70mm and infinity, The range you're describing is with the Macro lens on. You need to unscrew the aperture then unscrew the Macro lens, you can then replace the aperture. There is also an additional focus adjustment on the eyepiece should you need it.
You will now have the full range of focus, hope this helps.

Barry.

Hmm anthony failed to mention that Little things, I will give it a shot, that would make a big difference

thanks
