Pearls

Im currently "hanging out" in "SouthWest Asia" and have noticed that the pearls here are ridiculously cheap. Its $300 for a black pearl (6mm) necklace, braclet, and ear-rings. My buddy got a necklace from here and it was appraised for $2700 back home. Sounds to good to be true. My question is, how do i tell if im buying real pearls, i dont know anything about them and for me $300 is ALOT of money too, i wanted to buy a set of the real deal, any help would be great.

jiddy...hope i am getting back to you in time. take each pearl and rub it on your front tooth (yes, you heard me right!). a real pearl will have a gritty, rough 'feel' to it. a fake will be smooth.
