Phospate/Carbon Reactor Question

I am sorry for any confusion when using our product due to the directions. I wish we had more control over that, but all we can do is make suggestions and hope for the best.

I use two 509 units from Deltec one for Rowa & one for Carbon. Both units are gravity feed in line.First is Rowa and than Carbon. My flow is appr. 235 Liters/hour.I never Had a problem. For the first time when I started using Rowa I put in to the reactor only 200 ML of Rowa and wash it with salt water in my sump thru in to the 100 micron bag.I am running 1.2 Liter of Rowa now.My phosphates are undetectable with Deltec test kit.
I love the Rowa.

Cool looking tank =). Tsakik, i saw your other post about washing the rowaphos and just wondering how did you wash your rowaphos before using your deltec unit. You mentioned that ROWA says do not wash, but you also said Deltec's instruction is to wash to the Rowaphos. Did you do any different on how you use the rowaphos?

I am always washing my media rowa/carbon with salt water from the tank in to the 100micron bag which I have on my return lines all the time until the water from reactors is crystal clear.

One note on rinsing ROWAphos. If using it in a filter bag, dip the bag filled with ROWAphos in a bucket with about a gallon of RO water, like a tea bag. This will rinse the fines away and you will be good to go.

If using ROWAphos in a reactor, like the Deltec FR-509, fill it half way, which is 1 liter. Then connect a hose to the input line and turn the water on very slow. You will see what looks like like very strong coffee fill the reactor and start running out the exit fitting. Just allow the water to run slowly for a few minutes, taking care not to apply to much flow so the ROWAphos is pushed through the top sponge. After a few minutes, the water from the output fitting will turn clear. The reactor will still look cloudy, but that's OK. Let it settle for 15 minutes and it will be ready to install.

Just go slow and start with a very low flow through the reactor to start. You don't want to shock your system by dropping the phosphate level to fast.

ROWAUSA,
Thats a very good information. I think people forget (like me :) ) to start slow and end up using it to their tank right away. As far as rinsing the ROWAPHOS, i like the idea of dipping the ROWAPHOS in R/O water with a filter bag just enough to rinse the ROWAPHOS.
