I noticed this morning that the copper pipes in my garage had a good deal of condensation on them which lead to a good size puddle of water on the garage floor.

I dried everything off to check for leaks and nothing. I also checked behind the wall on the crawl space side for leaks, and again nothing, everything dry there. However, after 2-3 hrs, I went back to check and the pipes were wet with condensation again.

My question is what is causing this AND is this something I should be worried about. These pipes are where my water runs and is theh input for my RO/DI. I turned off the value to the RO/DI all day and condensation is still occuring.

I am assuming I should insulation them with the black foam??

If you do insulate them make sure they are completely sealed. Get the stuff with the self seal lap. Use duct tape on the butt seams. I'd go with one size larger. It makes it easier to get around the 90's. To get around 90's, start with a straight piece, close it up and push it through the 90.
Hope that makes sense.

Oh, by the way cold water pipes do sweat.

Mark,

thanks, good point.I guess it is off to Lowes tomorrow after work to get some foam.

Is there alot of condensation in the room where the pipes are located? I had a similar problem with a toilet in a bathroom and that was the cause of the problem. Insutaling the pipes will help but it would not hurt to put a fan in the room if that is posible.
