I know quite a bit about the pistol shrimp pairing with the goby but im not sure on what kinds of goby's i can put with the shrimp. i like the blackray shrimp goby but none of the places around here ever get them in. i also like the yasha hashi but those too are hard to find. i had a randalls shrimp goby but it got too big and couldnt even fit in the shrimp hole...shrimp = 1.5 inches...i know the tiger watchman gets big but the local stores always have some that are 1 inch. does anyone think that they would pair or should i just wait. the problem with waiting is my shrimp is scared so he wont come out and im afraid hes not getting food.

Salty Dog go with a Stonogobiops species of Gobies they are usually the smaller Gobies and will pair up with your pistol in no time at all I have had real good luck putting them in just after the lights go off the pistol shrimp if alone with no host will usually be working for food at this time check out this link of choices I also like your choice of the black ray shrimp goby they will work very well together.
Good luck with your choices..Jeff

Besides those 3 gobies, what else would you suggest for a candy cane shrimp or does it really matter as long as it's a shrimp goby?

Gotfish making me do hard work here.

Ok had to do some more book reading on this one for a good answer for you
Ok species & choices You Have a Alpheus Randalli Pistol shrimp who only gets to 2" long on a max length this is a female the male stays smaller by a 1/2"
I have seen this in 2 different mated pair that I am very luck to be in charge of their lodgings.:D
With this you want to stay with a smaller Shrimp Goby species IE my first choices are the Stonogobiops,
However If you want to explore some other look at these guys:
Amblyeleotris Guttata,The Orange spotted Goby is another more peaceful goby.Another is the Amblyeleotris Sungami .
Now If you have allot of activity and you want a more ROBUST Goby go with a Cryptocentrus Cinctus these guys are allot more bossy and will be more apt at driving away any other smaller fish that are curious of the Cave or the dwelling. If paired up with a Male & Female Goby they will really be agressive at driving away any intruders This is all on a small scale any large fish will make these guys go under cover!
Well this should give you a good start, I would also say take your time & try to find a maited pair of Gobies thru your LFS
Hope this helps...Jeff
