Pistol Shrimp ID

Hi Leslie,
I get these as hitchhikers now and then on corals. They are always quite small about 1.5-2cm. I'm hoping that they are a small variety.

Kevin it really looks like Japanese pistol only a more green color check out post 8 the 2 pictures on the right.
yours look rare never seen one in your color.

That's a really common color pattern among the small rock-dwelling alpheids. I've seen lots of these living in dead coral rubble from the Indo-Pacific, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. Without knowing where it originally came from I hesitate to put a name on it. But, the good news is that they do stay small, they tend to stay hidden within burrows & crevices, and won't harm any valuable corals or fish.

Yes, thank you for the links!! I've never owned a pistol shrimp or even seen one so I did some reading up in it (from the links provided) and watched a few videos on youtube and they are some amazing little creatures!! I thought only the mantis shrimp was a bad little fellow!! :shock:

Sorry Leslie...I accidentally deleted your last post where you mentioned you can only edit/delete using the [A/Edit] tab on the bottom of a post. I was trying to see if it would work for me here on my own post and I selected yours instead. Guess that's what happens when you try to do 10 things at once and not pay attention!
