Please don't trade red bugs!

Many Reefkeepers don't see the little buggers, but please be carefull!

Dang has always been very open and honest to people here on Reef Frontiers, that he hasn't, and will not treat his tank... and lets them know they will need to look at this for themselves when they purchase his corals.

That honesty is worth our respect!

Matt, I learned a simple rule recently from Don and Sue: Assume all acro frags or colonies have red bugs. Best to treat all corals with interceptor dip before going in the display.

[Reef Frontiers' Favorite,Dang has red bugs, and he sells his frags regularly./QUOTE]

so?? yes people here are careful about red bugs .... i just don't get why you're pointing your finger at Dang when he's not the only one AND he's honest about it dood.

I guess when you buy anything, you buy at your own risk which is why they say quarantine everything. Not sure if pointing the finger is allowed here either as it can stir the pot a bit.

--- couldn't have said it better myself

even the pet stores carry them.

some love 'em, some embrace them, some deal with 'em, some hate em, some make lists of people that have 'em on the web- to each his own I guess.

Not necessary to individualize selling or trading of frags with red bugs. A person should always be aware of what they are putting into their own tank, whether it be from a reputable retailer or from a local hobbyist. If in doubt, treat your livestock prior to introduction. Never make the assumption that the livestock is parasite free (even the original owner of the livestock may not know).

So this is not an issue with individuals, but an issue that everyone must be cognizant of and make it their own responsbility to ensure their own tanks are as healthy as can be.

question about the interceptor dip ... do you guys just dip the coral and then put it in your display tanks or do you put it in a quarantine tank or what the deal?

hey Gabs, I would suggest putting & treating them in a qt once your done treating you wc until the qt is clear & you still keep it in qt until the given time for putting corals in qt. That sopunds crazy LOL

aahh ahh ............now you made me feel like homer simpson:lol: :p, ok could you translate that in english  because now i'm lost, let me see....so i put the coral in quarantine, then i treat my water change with that until water is clear and then i leave the coral there forever??

I dont qt but, I do dip and throw away any rock base. I wouldnt hesitate to take a coral from a tank with bugs. They are not hard to deal with.

Don

if only everything in reefkeeping was as easy to get rid of as red bugs. Some have them and their corals never show any signs of issues with them. Some look like heck and loose all color. I try to treat most everything that goes into my tank and if I see a bugger I treat, but thats me. I have yet to loose any of my hermits which they say will be lost and none of my pods either. In fact I saw 1 recently that looked like it is enjoying my interceptor a bit too much. Calling someone out like Dang, though isn't necessary.

yes,,this is the red bug Dang!!!!be aware ha ha ha ha,,dip it and enjoy it,,

yeah that is pretty rude I would have to say.
I dont agree with someone coming on our forum and bashing on others.
everyone knows how easy it is to free sps of red bugs and everyone also knows most any sps coral farmin source is going to have red bugs somewhere. it is part of the teritory, buy the frags, treat them, then enjoy them..

Dang I will always look you up when I want an sps frag!!

Matt

Never met Dang in person, but learned enough from him just posting here on the boards to know he is a great person especially how everyone responds to his warmth. Glad he has a great sense of humor about the whole thing.:)

Known red bug traders:

Reef Frontiers' Favorite,Dang has red bugs, and he sells his frags regularly.

Why would you do this ????????
Dang, I would take anything from your tank, all it takes is a little interceptor to knock them down.

Hello,
It is the responsiblity of the person adding livestock to their tank to be sure that it is free of unwanted hitchikers. There are other worse pests on corals that are much harder to detect. The first part of your statement is valid and I left it stand but I edited the second part. It is not necessary to single out an individual or even a company. Questions and treatment methods for pests are helpful and would be of better service in this forum.

Best regards,
Kevin
