Went to the movies at around 10 watched Hostel THE MOST GOREST DISGUSTING MOVIE EVER ( i wanted to puke out of my nose), came home power was out. Transformer fuse blew for aprox 6 hours, electricians and people came to cut the trees down this is at 12AM in the morning. My tank inhabitants began being some what drowsy and lying along the bottom and to the side im guessing b/c of the lack of oxygen. I had some spare back up pumps i just purchased 6 of them. Put them on battery operated, ended up looking at the temp. It started at 80 degrees and dropped to 74 at the end.

Back in the summer i use to take bottles of frozen water and just place it in the aquarium helping lower the temp because it would skyrocket to about 88 and there was nothing i could do about it b/c i didnt have a chiller. But little do you know that my GF told me i could do the same with just hot boiling water. Of course i still have boiling water in the faucet. That helped bring the temp back up 2 degrees to 76. Mother was extremely helpful in my time of need. Stood with the flashlight and watched me at work trying to save my precious hobby.

A couple of the acros began bleaching .... and i think they're going to die....

Is there anything i can do about it.......

thank you. for listening to my story. very memorable one- thanks mom

A few winters ago, we lost power for 6 full days during a very bad ice storm. Fortunately, we use gas for the hot water heater, stove/oven, and fireplace. I took off of work and kept my reef alive doing the following...

using a 5 gal bucket and a large plastic cup I removed water from the sump while heating a pot of tank water on the stove. I then poured the heated water into the 5 gal bucket and poured it into the top of the tank from a distance (to create flow and lots of bubbles for aeration).. Repeated this 6-7 times; waited 4-5 hrs then repeated the process. I also used a heavy blanket between sessions to insulate the tank and utilized one small battery operated airstone (every LFS was out of them!). I of course did not feed them at all. I kept a close eye on the temp which hovered around 74-76. I did not loose one thing! :D

Sorry that happened to you. Most of this stuff is very tough, not alot you can do for the ones that are bleaching, just wait and see. Just get it back to normal as soon as possible, and they wiil usually recover.

just absolutely amazing. thank you all for responding. I had another mishap. Just an hour ago power stopped for 2 hours i didnt GET ANY SLEEP today and worked the battery air pumps again. Luckily the power came back and i went to bed. Time to feed the fishes. And the people outside are chopping the trees left over from yesterday Grating them in the machine. Good day to you all.
