I just bought a purple tip, and he was doing fine for a few days, and then he decided to move across my tank. However now it looks like it has inverted its mouth and all kinds of nasty stuff is coming out. Is this how it discharges its waste?

If its not dumping its waste it looks like it might be shedding or something. I have an attach picture. It's a little fuzzy but there is like a ring all around the inverted mouth that looks like its just sitting there waiting to float off.

this looks like a Seabae anemone which is a very difficult anemone to acclimate into tank life and also has very high light needs along with perfect water quality. the anemones do expell their waste like this and will look like hell while doing it but not many people have good success with these seabaes.

Good luck and I hope its just taking a poop!!!

Up to the challenge.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have about 6watts per gallon, and perfect water conditions. I am also limiting the amount of fish in my tank, to keep nitrates under-control. But you are right, I have had several friends fail at keeping these anenome's.

Sorry to bear the bad news, when an anemone inverts, means it has folded: on it's way to that big reef in the sky. Only seen one in this state ever make it, ask slickdonkey about it.

My seabae did the same thing. 5 years ago before I knew about sebaes it did not make it

Should I throw it away before it throws my tank out of whack or give it a couple of days?

Adam
Simple and to the point answer: yes!
And this from one who has a hard time throwing out excess plants or hitchhiking predators.
Save the tank, the anemone is already gone, some of the tissue is slow to rot and any rotting coelenterates are Baaaaad for the tank.
Sorry,
Mike

$45 flushed! My water started to turn cloudy and he looked even more decayed than he did this morning. He's gone, lets up it hasn't screwed up my new tank too much. A couple of things.

1. I bought it the second day it was in the pet store. (Too many water changes for it to handle perhaps.)
2. Another thing is I did slowly mix my water with it, but probably not thoroughly.
3. I want two maroon yellow banded clowns swimming a stupid anenome what do you recommend? I have the two clowns on order already. I was hoping the anenome would find a home by then.
